Which brings me to another point. The Porsche should be a bit easier to launch with more of its weight on the drive wheels than the vette.

they are easy to launch.... damn near idiot proof

Drop teh clutch from 5500 +- and point in the direction you want to end up
D/f is over the front, and in the rear.... the weight over the rear axle helps on launch, hurts in braking, and helps on corner exits... unless you lift... (never never never lift in a 911 even if its AWD)
the reason why the vette is quick to 60 is gearing, and some amount of weight over the rear axle thanks to the gearbox being back there.... but it is far from the advantage the GT2 would have.
at speed, you'd want d/f over the rear.... imagine going over a bump where the rear gets light... and suddenly your ass is in front of you... but, the trick with a 911 is to stay on the gas if your in trouble.
WR once forced porsche to go with 315's in the rear of the 993 GT2 because he powerslid in 6th gear while driving on NS.... a 'hairy' moment he didn't want to repeat.
