AUSTRALIAN GT CHAMPIONSHIP DISAPPOINTED IN LAMBORGHINI AUSTRALIA WITHDRAWAL FROM SANDOWN CLASSIC

The management of the Australian GT Championship has expressed its extreme disappointment with the last minute withdrawal of the Team Lamborghini Australia entry that was to have been driven by John Bowe at the Sandown Classic scheduled for December 7-9.

‘There has been a lot of excitement surrounding the John Bowe/James Moffat entry and we have used John extensively in our promotion, so this is a big loss to the event’, said Australian GT Championship Director Terry Little.

‘We are also surprised to say the least at some of the comments attributed to Lamborghini Australia Managing Director Andrew Smith in a media release on the subject.

‘Mr. Smith has been made fully aware of the Australian GT Championship calendar for 2008 that includes the A1GP, the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, and the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, and he is also aware of the television coverage.

As for the regulations that’s simple. The Australian GT Championship is and will continue to run under FIA GT3 rules and Mr. Smith knows that’.

Mr. Little said that the management of the Australian GT Championship had an excellent relationship with Reitter Engineering in Germany and its Australian agent Paul Ceprnich, Pace Innovations who are responsible for the Lamborghini racing program, distribution of race cars and parts.

Mr. Little also expressed extreme disappointment with comments attributed to Mr. Smith concerning an issue with the Bowe driven Lamborghini Australia entry at the Tasmanian round of this year’s GT Championship, saying ‘the management of Australian GT, race officials and CAMS addressed the issue immediately following the Tasmanian round and are working to ensure this can’t happen again’.
