Some companies use test mules wrapped in old skin to confuse the media.
If it's just used to test the technology inside, then the exterior can be anything they want it to be. Probably using the current body shape lets them tinker with other stuff while the finishing touches to the actual look are being still carried out on pen, paper and pc *shrug*
