Autoweek - Gallardo Review
 

I was just flipping through the channels after watching the Bahrain GP and came across the Gallardo Reveiw by Autoweek on the Speed channel. This had to be the absolutely worst review of any car I have ever seen ever, all they did was show it launch twice on the drag strip, saw that it was good to look at and that it is good for the track and that was it. They didn't even take it out on the street and drive through the mountains with it or anything, it was pretty pathetic, there needs to be a new television car show that brings the best of Best Motoring, 5th Gear, and Top Gear together in the US and Canada as the USA is the biggest car country for any major car manufacturer and it has the worst car shows in the world, something must be done immediately.

I agree with you. The reviews on Speed are just pathetic!

the host pretending to be Italian was just sad, if I wanted to watch comedy, there is a channel dedicated to that topic, leave comedy to the experts and concentrate on reviewing cars.
I don't believe lambos are meant to go down the 1/4 mile, leave that to the American cars/

Well, they did cover the whole thing about it being a track car first and everything else second, but it was just a bad way of presenting it. Other than the rather slow acceleration times I don't think their verdict or opinion was far off.

It just wasn't fun to watch, the presenter was an idiot and you actually got to see very little of the Lambo where they say it is a so great(road course). Instead they pretty much just show the 1/4 mile again and again, with a repetition of the slalom thrown a couple times for good measure.

I really hate how some programs and reviews just talk about the 1/4 mile times etc etc, people can get that information from anywhere! What I want to see is people really driving these cars hard and giving a straight up review on what the car is like to drive in the real world.

Disappointing... I time recorded it thinking it would be watchable. How hard is it to make a Gallardo review? The car literally speaks for itself... okay, maybe not when you don't give the car a chance to speak. :(

Liability.

US based programming has to be so careful - they are all afraid of people imitating them, getting hurt and suing the networks etc.

Even though it is highly unlikely, they (the networks) are afraid to step out on a limb - Everything has to first go through legal, so can you imagine what some high-paid legal expert is going to say when presented with the idea of cars being driven dangerously on TV with their consent?

And even WITH legal approval they get paranoid, especially with live TV - look at Janet Jacksons tit - the half-time show was approved - but the artists slipped in a tit-job for free...

LOL :lol: ... but then again they let these recorded freaking "reality" shows on TV with only a lame "Don't try this at home" disclaimer - so who knows?

Time for a Cable Channel to step up and do the dirty work I guess... but which one?

I agree with you RC45. But sometimes you have to wonder why they can have shows like Jackass but not Top Gear or 5th Gear. With the kind of budget american tv stations have, you would expect a car show done in a hollywood manner. Don't have to add all the explosives but some Tiff driving would do :)

If you look at speed channel's "Test Drive" infomercials, they do let the car loose on the track (with factory's permission I'm sure) and powerslide things from sports cars to pick-up trucks. It's not that they can't do it, but whether they have the commitment to.
