How can I take the audio off of a video file?

Like the topic says, I wanna know how to separate the audio from the video and make the audio its own file in MP3 format or whatever. Can I do this?

Sure - if the vid is an WMV or MOV or AVi etc, just load the video into a decent non-linear edit app such as Vegas or Premiere and save off the audio stream.

Depending on the licensed codecs you have, you might nt be able to do the MP3 converison in the video editor - you may have to save it off to a WAV for example, then run the WAV file through something like Soundforge...

If the video is an MPEG, then it's even easier - just run the MPEG file through the demuxxer of your choice and feed the MPA stream into any half decent MP3 producer...

You didn't specify what format it is...if it's AVI or MPEG ya can use VirtualDub for instance. Just load the file and click 'File'===>'SaveWAV'. As far as I remember it saves it as an uncompressed WAV, so it may take up quite a lot of space, but ya can use basically use any program (CDEX, Goldwave) and compress it to MP3 or WMA.
