MB McLaren SLR test report

including vid at Kyalami race track, and some nice pictures...

link

btw, is it just up to me, or is it just slow when cornering :?
IMO it´s just way too heavy to be a real supercar :|

cool! Thanks for the link 8)
yeah, the SLR is designed to be a Gran Tourer
not a supercar to compete with the Enzo or CGT

SPEEDKILLAR 02-27-2004 07:07 AM

Woooowww, thanks st-anger, just love that SLR

OK maybe It can't beat the CGT on the track, but you have to admit

you won't get the same luxury as the CGT and look how it looks,

truly impressive. They are actually two different cars, so comparing them is not

reasonable.

Thanks st-anger. And BTW, even for me it's slow cornering. It's not a supercar, it's big and expensive GT. And that auto-gearbox...BLEAH

Seeing the SLR in action while NOT being piloted by a current world champion - it is safe to say that package (power/handling/braking/weight) is over-engined for the novice/amateur/weekend driver.

If they knock 100hp off it may end up being a better balanced package.

^yes true, but then it wont do 0-60 in 3.8 secs or top 350kmh  , which are its selling points...

its power had to be increased from its intial 500bhp since the std sl55 was producing those kinda horses already! - at that power rating the over 2 ton SL55 hit 335kmh in testing before AMG put its limiter at 186mph in optional mod spec, becoz there are no tyres that can handle that speed rating (>300kmh) for a 2 ton car

I know it's a luxury GT cruiser and maybe customers prefer not to have the harder shifts that the Ferrari gearbox produces, but it seems to me that in the video, the transmission shifts a little on the slow side. But a very awesome and capable car nonetheless. When the driver pushed the starter button and the engine roared to life, the sound of the engine that came through the subwoofer actually rattled the window next to me, sounded as if the car was started right outside!
