How to accelerate with aut. gearboxes
 

Hello:

I want to know how can I have the maximum accel. possible with an aut. trans, because my car is a little slow at low RPMs (below 3000). I've an Opel Omega MV6 3.0 (Caddy Catera in the US).
Can I accel. and brake at the same time?
When I do that can I've a better accel.?
It's too bad for the trans. doing that?

Well for sure the car (also the brakes themselfs) doesn't like that.. that's why there are two pedals ;)
How could you accelerate faster if you brake?

Well, depends.. in extreme driving conditions yes you could do it as far as I know.. as you can do it in manual cars.

Thats whit i do when i race. I mash the brake and give it some gas not a lot tho like 2 - 2.5k. im sure its not good for the tranny but as long as u dont do it all the time i doubt itll hurt anything. Also you my want to try letting off the gas a little so itll shift closer the the "sweet" spot.

hit the gas, and keep the break in all the way ..... dont hit the gas all the way, just a little. and then slam the gas and release the break :)

well most of cars have auto transmition there´s an option called "sport" that allows you to go near the car revs, about 6000 or 7000 rpms and them the gear change goes.

So this is the unique solution.

Thanks but I'm talking about a standing accel.. For example to measure the 0-100km/h time.
When I only floor it, the car start at 1000rpm all the way to the redline and between 1000 and 3000 the car has poor power. With a manual gearbox is easy, you can start at 3000rpm and slip the tires a little, but with the Omega (RWD, atuomatic) you cant do any slip so I don't know when I'm reaching the traction limit.

That's the way? can I win seconds doing it?

i have another question, should the traction control be switched off if I want faster acceleration? (0-100km/h time)

if you do this, your rpm will increase, so you can have your desired 3000rpm to have a good accel.
I did this with some auto cars (chrysler shadow, spirit rt and stratus rt) and you get a lot more accel compared to the other technic of slamming the gas pedal right at the beginning.

you'll know you're doing it correct if your tyres will start to make some noises from the brakes that resist to the movement of the wheels, and the wheels will start to spin if you have enough torque

tecnicly yes but its much harder to get the perfect time.
without tcs you run the risk of getting virtualy endless wheelspin, which is slower than no wheelspin. but if you can control the throttle it should be faster off.

If you want faster accel standing still, you need to turn it off. The traction control's job is to avoid wheel spinning, more torque than the desired, etc.

And if you want a faster accel when you're cruising, depends in lots of things, if your engine is powerful and with the gas pedal floored the wheels will spin, the traction control will take over.

i currently drive auto, (mom's car), i just hate it, the car just starts to drown, but anyway, at the begining i floor it until 2nd, then i let the car to gain speed, with lil gas, then the car itself starst gaining good speed,each time i want to go down a gear i break a lil, and if i want a gear up i floor it until the change, its a sport suv, maybe i am doing it the wrong way but at least i have beated a lot of riced up cars. :mrgreen:

and how about rev the car in N and then hit D?, that damages the trans?
