Any rotor heads here?

Just joined the board, seems like a pretty cool community. Just wondering if there are any other rotary engine fans on the boards.

P.S. If you know who the guy in my avatar is, you get ten cool points.

That would be Mr. RE himself

I haven't been here that long but I've seen a couple people mention they own or at some point owned an rx7. Someday when I have uploading privileges I will add a couple RX7 and 787 track videos to the collective. In the meantime if anybody is looking for rx7 media feel free to drop me a line on aim (ccarlisi).

Welcome aboard.

yeh 8 second RX3's are a fav of mine, australia is pretty rotary crazy, and rotars are awsome!!!
woulden't call myself a rotor nut, but a ported and bridged 13b reving to 14 000rpm is impressive in anyone's books!

^^^amen to that.....

rotaries are great motors, with amazing response. i just wish there was a way to get better torque output and not have them feel so gutless. :?

i dont have one.
but my dad had one. an old 81 rx7.
it was really great for that time, and even now in some aspects.

I Think The Wankel Rotary Engine in the new Mazda RX-8 is amazin, it may only have 240bhp but it goes like shit

i read about rotary engines somewhere . they sound really cool and much more efficient that regular engines.

the new mazda Rx8 has a new rotary engine, its called RENESIS.

i read it was called RENESIS not wankel. anyway i think the bad thing about rotatary engines it that they wear out more quickly and so not last as long.

the generic name for that type of engine is wankel, but mazda named theirs renesis to be special.

i was thinking about buring a rx7 with the 13B motor, but the more I read about them, the more I hear that they have major reliability problems. i know why the stock ones have problems, with the bad cats and the engine always running lean when you boost the turbos or make them sequential, but my biggest concern would be if the rx7 could be a daily driver.

i drive about 15,000 miles per month, at least, and if i got a rx7 i'd want to seriously mod it, like put bigger ports in the engine and upgrade the turbo to something like GT40r BB, along with all the other necessary fuel delivery enhancements.

anyone with a rx7, do you think the rx7 could be a reliable daily driver? can the tranny handle 500rwhp?

oldsnail 02-08-2004 07:58 AM

15,000 miles per month!!!! sheeeet. i drive my company car 13hrs a day and i can only do abt 100miles a day max!!!
thats like more than one oil change a week.. and major maintence every month.

PaulGT2164 02-08-2004 06:41 PM

rx-7s are very reliable, you just have to take care of them a lil more diligently than a normal engine, i have seen a ton of 7s with other 200k miles on them. you just have to know where to kick them to make them work :D

well, that would mean you would have to average 41+mph 12 hours a day, every day
i have a rediculous time believing this. mabey 1500miles is more accurate? chaserolls?
