If we're talking about war-changing planes of the Second World War, I'd say the F6F takes the prize. It's so ignored, because it wasn't really all that brilliant, but it was the first plane the US built which could clearly outperform the Mitsubishi Zero. A tough machine, and an unsung machine of the war.
