I don't see the need to mention the person being an MIT student. Any person with some electrical knowledge could have done that to their own car. But of course they won't because it's just a stupid useless idea.

The PA and Strobes won't be stupid or useless when your stuck behind a moron in the left lane going the speed limit. :-)
