You should think about the E34 M5. . . Stan had one. It was a pretty amazing car. One of the last hand built M cars. 8)

Its SO hard these days not to buy those cars as they are DIRT CHEAP I saw e32 3,5 yesterday for 2.000$ lether interior, manual transmition(wich is only good :D) in a very good condition... damn its just 2000$!!! :( e32 are a bit cheaper than e34

I'd consider a 535i if I saw one - The 530 and 540i's are nice as well but I'm not sure I want a gas pig. Also Iv'e read that the 3.5 has more mechanical problems associated with it than the bullet-proof 2.5 ... for 14 more hp I'll take the 2.5 - w/ VANOS of course :wink:

The e32's are beautiful - but again it's about the gas milage and servicing costs :bah:

its a car for driving but not for having alot of fun, only in rain drifts are very easy to do so I am always excited when it rains :D for 1000$ I paid for it I am very happy :D

They convert those big engines on using LPG wich is 2xcheaper than fuel donno if those systems are available in your country thou.

LPG - Liquefied Petroleum Gas http://www.nett.ca/faq/lpg-1.html the system costs about 1500$ so you have additional tank in your trunk and you can still drive on petrol or on LPG, when you out of LPG you switch back to petrol. Consuption is a bit higher but the price of LPG is 2x lower.

I like the E34 shape very much. I miss my M5 quite a bit. The S38 motor was a jewel of a motor and just sounded awesome. 525 is dreadfully underpowered though. The car weighs nearly 4,000lbs.

I had considered an E300/300E - the one co-built by Porsche...but in the end, the M5 was more to my liking because it was a stick shift. I think the performance between the MB and M5 are very close.

I have never had the pleasure of driving the MB, but I can tell you the BMW is fantastic. You have to beware of the 540i's V8 and the Nikasil motors that were known for failing. Google it and there should be discussions on it.

For these older cars, you get what you pay for. Pay for the best car you can afford and make sure the paperwork is in order.

I miss the M5, but don't regret moving to the RSA. It's so fun to drive.

My parents had a C280. I liked it a lot. It was a 1996. Fairly reliable. It had a leak from the cam seal once, it developed a crack in the vacuum system that turned out to be a part of the diverter for the air vents - under the front dash and a little bit of money to find, and the exhaust worked loose and was rattling, which I was able to fix myself. Otherwise, it was a nice drive. My folks had the sport package, which had firmer seats with more support, the AMG monobloc wheels and better tires. I think the suspension was firmer also. They sold it and picked up an Acura RL with 30k miles on it because they wanted something a little bigger...and they didn't like the sport suspension...said it was too stiff. I'd buy one with good maintenance history though.

Thanks Wackary. I do have the aircon option, which is probably the only option I would have cared for, in addition to the LSD. I never use the radio or the sunroof. Yeah, it is a bit odd that nowadays, when you want a lighter stripped down car, you have to pay more.

Still, the E34 holds a special place in my heart. That motor was musical...
