Heidfeld drives Nordschleife

F1 Pilot Nick Heidfeld drives his BMW F1.07 on the Nurburgring Nordschleife. It has been years ago since the last F1 car drove this part of the track
Enjoy

i really wanna know wot his time was

Not bad, but I was expecting him to drive abit more to the edge then that. Oh well, I guess it's for safety reasons.

i heard it was sub 8 minutes on "demonstration tires" which have no grip and short gear ratios limiting the car to 257km/h.

Despite unusually hard demonstration tyres and short transmission ratio, Heidfeld notched up a top speed of 275 km/h on the long straight called the 'Döttinger Höhe'. The second lap was his fastest lap and took 8:34 minutes. A camera car took shots of the 29-year-old on some sections of all three laps and Heidfeld slowed down for the photo calls.

Sweet, would have liked it if he pushed it a little harder though...but I guess they dont want to kill off their driver just yet :D

silentm 04-30-2007 10:32 AM

fast 8)

TopGearNL 04-30-2007 06:26 PM

More of a publicity stunt then, no timed lap. That sucks!

Heidfeld is one lucky guy, don't think any other driver will get the chance to drive a modern-day F1 at the Ring anytime soon!

As for the laptime, I wonder if given a proper set-up, Heidfeld would have beaten the unbeatable Bellof laptime. Anyway, it was cool to hear the F1 engine screaming through the Eiffel mountains, 3 decades after Lauda's almost-fatal crash :D

Oh i'm almost sure of it. Speculation is, that with the right tires and gear ratios, he could do it in sub 7 minute, which i think may be a bit of a conservative estimate.

I think he would need short 1-3, a moderate 4,5 and long 6, 7. the trouble spots would undoubtedly be the Karusells where it's extremely bumpy, but the key to getting a great lap would be how long down Doettinger Hoehe he would be before hitting redline. I think that would be the only part of the track he would not be at 19,000.
