http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/hotg...esh-screen.jpg http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/hotgemini/door-bar.jpg A few mates and I were a little bored, so we decided to build ourselves a little paddock basher. Before anyone asks, a significant amount of reinforcing and roll-over protection is yet to be added, along with a radiator and associated ancilliaries. I'd simply *love* to hear your anecdotes, advice, etc. All posts very welcome. |

im not too familiar with the term Paddock Basher. i assume this has something to do with racing in a field. if thats true, then it looks like a lot of fun. i wish we had something like that to do around here (maybe we do i just dont know about it LOL)
the closest ive gotten to do something like this was with a 89 Mazda 626 my roomate bought for $175. we gutted the interior and stripped it down then took it to the desert. we didnt race it against anyone just drove around and tried to break it, which was a lot of fun. there was a bunch of crap out there that people dumped like sofas and old cars that we ran it into. ahh, good times anyway, this looks like a fun project. hope to see some more updates :D BTW, what kind of car is that? |
A paddock (field, meadow, etc) basher is a car that just gets thrashed around for fun, exactly like you described. Nothing serious, just something for a couple of mates to do to burn some time. Normally you'd just drive it as it was (or strip the interior out like you did) but we decided to up-the-ante a little by lightening the car and then adding some bracing to replace the lost strength.
The car is a 1980 Holden Gemini, equivalent to the german opel kadett C, american Opel Isuzu (aka buick opel) and sold in half a dozen other countries under a variety of names. Known as the general motors "T-car". |
yeah my mate and I had 1983 suzuki swift 3 cyclindar thing..Living near the bush has advantages for riding motorbike and thrashing shit cars around.lol..But yeah,We used to rally the little thing up 100km/hr...Before going bush I used hit speed bumps at 75km/hr and got air...We killed the little thing and burn it...Great fun..I notice you drink VB.??I thought Queenlanders drink XXXX.
