what do i do???
So two days ago my starter went out on my 240sx, not that this something major but im just really tired of my car, as i had posted before i cant afford full coverage insurance on a new vehicle so thats out of the question, so now im left with a few options 1. Sell the car and buy a motorcycle cash 2. fix the car cancel insurance on it, finance a bike and just keep the car for when it rains. the only reason i would cancel the insurance on my car is becouse i wouldnt use it much and it wouldnt make sense for me to keep it insured if im barely gonna use it. 3. fix my car not get a bike and just keep saving money until my insurance rates drop enough to be reasonably affordable, but by this time ill have enough money to buy a veyron cash. so what do you guys think i already have a few people that are willing to come pick up my car as is with cash in hand. what do i do???

how much did they offer for your car? it might be enough to go get something decent
|
$1,300USD there is a reason why im tired of it (ask RC he knows) ive been saving money for a little bit and i managed to save a good amount for a good bike but not for a decent car.

You're 20, insurance rates aren't really going to drop much until your 25 right? Bike insurance should be cheaper, and if you can find a nice bike that you can afford that might be your best bet.
I'm shopping around for a cheap car and have been finding some nice 3rd Gen Camaro's and Firebirds for dirt cheap. |
yeah but i just want the next car i get to be nice so that i can keep it for a while.

Have you thought about the "we finance anyone" places. They do it with high interest rates. But, some of them are dumb enough to let you pay a minimum payment each month and if you want, you can pay more. Thats what I did, the interest was at 16% when I bought the car. I pay over double what I'm supposed to and royally screwed them out of the interest. I get a printout of each payment, telling me how much I paid on the car and how much of it was for the interest. My last printout, they made $8 off of me last month. Once the car is paid off, they'll have made a grand total of roughly $400 off the car. Plus, it came with a free warranty thats about to bite them in the ass. The engine has a minor rattle, the guys at the shop I work at are all saying the lifters need to be replaced. I know, it's not the best option, but if you can make it work you'll get into a newer car with a warranty. The little place I went to doesn't even force full coverage insurance on me. I still have full coverage though, since it doesn't cost me much. Another plus, is that it'll help build credit. As much as I hate my car, it was ultimately a good decision IMO. It saved me a lot of money compared to what I was going to spend. Do note, this wasn't my first choice when purchasing a car. I went to the local VW/Toyota dealer beforehand and was jerked around by them. The place I went to is just up the street, so I stopped in to see what the deal was and ended up buying a car. I wouldn't recommend this, but a friend of mine did it. Instead of financing a car, take out a personal loan. (You might need a co-signer depending on credit status) Use the cash to buy a car. The bank didn't know he bought a car so he didn't carry full coverage insurance. I think your best option is to keep the car. Since you already have it, you can obviously afford it. IMO, a car is not something someone should go into serious debt for. In the long run, it's the best option. Keep saving untill you are bit older and your disposable income is higher. You'll be glad you did. I know it's not what you want to hear, but I do think it's the best idea. Also, having to make car payments kind of sucks. |
To keep the car with no insurance for a wet day just does not make sence, you would be more likely to crash on a wet day.

well i just left a bike shop here in houston and somehow it seems my credit is pretty good becouse i just got approved for 15k for a new GSXR1000 so im seriously thinking of keeping the car and just getting a bike, and possibly putting the car under my dads insurance so its dirt cheap, so now the options have changed, should i get the 06GSXR1000 or the 07????

Hear we out.. ;) Then go swing $4K for a used Gixxer600... or R6 and then buy a cheap trailer. Now you have the perfect "track day rig" Buy all the right gear and spend every other weekend doing track days at MSR - the fact you actually ride/race your bike at the track will impress more guys and get you more pussy than just buying a Gixxer1K to wheelie up and down Westheimer... Plus I dont want to have to come identify a buddies mangled body on I10 because some stunting schmuck got youhurt one a wild Friday night run.. ;) :P |
i want something faster than a 600, and i cant afford full coverage on a newer car or truck,a nd not to mention the outrageous fees for MSR, besides im not the wheelie type(unless theres a hot girl around), i just wanna drag some knee and go fast, this whole car insurance thing is a killer, if insurance wasnt so outrageously expensive i would have already bought a Z06, not to mention that 07GSXR1000 looks really good.

There are track days by the local "track gods" at MSR and Texas World almost every other weekend.. and they only charge $200 or so ;)
In the right hands a 600 will run rigns around a 1000 ;) Sometimes I catch myself thinking a track tuned 600, trailer and pickup rig spending weekends at the track would be more fun than even the Z on the road :P hehe |
200 dolars  not that thats alot of money but for a day of track use, thats what i would be paying for the bike monthly, besides im not using all 15k for the bike and i plan to pay it off in about 15 months,
and yes i know "in the right hands" but my hands arent the right one, well not yet atleast so im gonna need the extra power. i also looked at the CBR1000RR but its a little bit slower and the front end looks a little bland although the exhaust is cool. |
My cousin has both 1000 and 600 bikes and he says the 600 really is fast enough for the road but he bought the 1000 (actually 999R) because of what it was... He has a Honda CBR600RR and a Kawasaki 600 track only bike. He tells me all the time if I were to get a bike get a 600 it's all you'll ever need. Like RC said anyhting more than say a 700 would be for pussy magnetism. Once I'm done losing weight and get a House with the missus I want to get a bike bad (probably a Honda seeing as were I work)
