Corvette SS with over 600 bhp in stock form is coming up as a C6 platform. Is 100 bhp more then that a farce?

Corvette C5R/ C6R 427 is already making well over 700 hp naturally aspirated... further evolution and trickle down to the street version... what is so unlikely?

^ Well it looks like the story was just updated. The interviewer was just speculating that the new Corvette SS will be 600bhp but with force induction, and that the natural evolution would be to the C7 w/ 700hp.

Nothing has been confirmed yet.

700hp is very unlikely.
Aftermarket companies get alot of breaks, so it is alot easier for them to get 700hp out of an engine than a manufacturer.
An example is the late phase III Camaros making 600+hp NA. Which was taking a race engine, and making it streetable and emissions legal.

While I'm sure they new base engine will be more efficient, the base hp figure isn't always a good way to predict what the car will make once it is maxed out. While it makes sense to assume a more powerful stock engine will make a more powerful modded engine, this isn't universally true. Some cars just come with a more aggressive set up (like many german cars come with a bit "more" cam than american cars).

It will be interesting to see what powers the C7. GM is supposed to be developing DOHC V8's for a change.

6.2 liter DOHC supercharged in the SS is what word is coming down the line.

LT-5's in race trim were making 659 SAE HP more then a decade ago.

Not unrealistic IMO

Those engines are underestimated I think, they can really take some beef! :shock: :D
