What first car?
 

I have about £2000 to spend. I want something fun to drive but can't be above a 1.6l petrol or 1.9diesel for insurance and economy. Also i have to drive it between Spain and the UK so it needs to be reliable.

Was thinging something like a BMW e36 316, but most of them have over 100k miles on the clock is this too much?

BMW engines can't go wrong in my opinion. I've seen ones that are way above 250k miles!

That is very true! Same goes for Mercedes.

I was going to suggest a nice mid 1990's used 5l V8 Mustang or 5.l V8 Camaro - you know one of the 300,000 used ones for sale for about $1500, then I realized you are from the EU...

where fun, sun, speed and enjoyment are against the law... ;) :P

The motor in the Porsche is at 250k miles and still runs great, but that dosnt mean the rest of the car stood the test of time as well.

I guess you have never owned one or know any one that has. :roll:
Trust me one this one even BMW:s can break down.

I am looking to get the car in the UK as that is where I spend most my time now.

I looked at getting a diesel, but really I would prefer a petrol.

I realise 1.6 will be slow but I would still like a beemer, I like the looks both inside and out.

With not much cash to burn, the 316 would be a good choice. Drive it until it breaks down, and hopefully by then you'll have enough cash to buy a better car.

1.6 thanx to the weight of the car will consume almost same amount of fuel as 2.0 as was discussed in the link above :) probably its a insurance rate what you will decide on right?

I would suggest financing a new MINI Cooper, the depreciation is the lowest of any new car so PCP deals arevery cheap, about 200/month..

Oh yeah, andthey now have a sixthso cruise nicely at about 100mph. The new BMW/PSA engine is the most efficient by capacity petrol enginein the world too. So thiose long trips won't cost the earth.
