mazda reliable?

i had a mazda 323 f 1.6 l engine 96 bhp and the car was not reliable at all
so what is your opinion on mazda and in general japanese cars?

well the rx-8 performs better than a s2000 tho rotarys can't take a beating too long cuz they'll eventually leak

i have a 1.8 protege.. and its a great car, handles good for the price.. performance is good for the price... around 123hp and 120 torque.... and has never broken down :)

rotaries are a great motor, you just have to know how to kick them and take care of them, i have had several rotary powered cars, and none of them leaked, they all burn a tiny bit of oil, but its nothing wrong, they do cause of a lubrication system. people are always so fast to bash a rotary motor, but those people never have worked on them or anything usually, i had a 85 RX-7 that had over 244k miles on it and it was driven hard everyday, and i had 0 problems outta it, my secret? mobile 1 synthetic, and 93 octane....

I don't think he's talking about rotary engines, just mazda's in general. My mom used to have one, that 121 (kinda shaped like a english hat) 1.3 75hp. And I really, but I mean really trashed that car. It was in the beginning when I had my licence, if I look back at it now it seems irresposible... Ok I still don't drive slow but believe me there's a difference. I drove like I was racing in Le Mans all the time. Passed people whenever I got the chance, no matter what the speed limit was. Didn't really care about that. Got 168km/h out of that little car. Once I was doing 150km/h on a pretty busy road and the mom of one of my friends saw me... she was absolutely shocked when she saw me flying by. You could only do 90km/h there and it's a pretty busy road.

But to make a long story short: that mazda was very very very reliable. Absolutely trashed that little engine and never had any problems with it. Not with the brakes..., nothing! Only with the tires losing there grip in the wet because well there wasn't much rubber left on it :P The Yaris is a good car IMO but it seems it doesn't stand so much punishement! And toyota's are supposed to be very good.

i do not agree with you all cause i had a mazda like i said in the first post and i can say that i drove flat out all the time i really trashed that car i did burnout i pushed the car to its limits in top speed .... and i still think that car sucked a lot i remember that at the end when i sold it the engine has lost power it sucks to say it but that 's what i felt

Well, according to most reviews my 6 is pretty reliable.

I dunno yet, it only has 4000 miles on it.

Toyota has the best reliability by far. Then according to jd power it goes honda, gm, nissan......

My sister is driving a 1991 Lancer, she bought it in 1997 with 135,000km in it. Since that its over 300... Nothing serious had happened to it... It has 1.3l engine with 75bhp, which is not much, but enough for the city! I think most japanese cars are reliable...

see, that's that same engine my moms car had. over 300.000 km without big probs in a car with a light petrol engine that's amazing you know!!

I would say the mid to late 80's Mazda 323 was the best Mazda when it comes to reliability. My cousin had the 1986 323 with 200,000 miles, that thing still running well until today since he sold the car to my friend. I also know few of those model of 323, they're all agree with me about that when it comes to reliability.

The rest of Mazda, I would say pretty suck on reliability issue especially the rotary engine. I, myself a big fan of the look & handling of any generation RX-7 but the rotary engine is what stopping me from purchasing one of those.
