As the title says:

Which single car has had the longest production run - and how many years was it ?

The Volkswagen Beetle has the longest standing production run of any vehicle (58 years, the only interruption WWII). The last Beetle was produced a full 65 years after its initial launch.

But I'm probably wrong, as this would be a too easy answer :)

I'd have to say the volkswagen Beetle (the original variety). Its production run was from 1938 to 2003 when the last "original" car ran off the line. Of course it's been replaced by the "New Beetle" but I'm sure that's not really what you're looking for. So...65 years total.

Uhm - lets put another criteria - " continuous produciton run in the country of orgin"

After all, even the Germans stopped importing the Brazilian Beetle 1985 ;)

the vw bug currently holds the record, however it is not the most produced car. i read a number of years ago that the ole toyota corolla has sold more units worldwide than any other car, outpacing the bug by a pretty large number

I'm going to throw Corvette out there as it was first produced in 1953 and currently still is in production in which I believe has always been made and assembled in the US of A. (Kentucky)

More seriously, let's say it's the Corvette i.e. (wouldn't surprise me), we have seen 6 generations now being all 6 pretty different. Does that count as 1 production run or 6 runs?

The morgan 4/4 since 1936? im pretty sure there's at least a morgan model with the title of longest production model...

No - the rules have not changed.

The question is simply a segway into the discussion that the only car, and the only sports car in the current history fo the world that has stayed true to the original design philosophy, has survived many company regime changes and kept pace with all current and future legislation and is still inproduciton and has not been moved to offshore produciotn of any kind to bypass said laws (whish iwhy the Beetle died in Euorpe but came back to life in South America) is the Chevrolet Corvette.

The car everyone loves to hate on and redicule - but step for step has kept up with current trends and more often than not has actually been the class leader or close to it, each time the game changed all through its 54 year life - it has a 50 year winning racing history - a longer racing history than most cars have been in production.

And we are talking about a single car model, not an entire line of cars just one...

There is no other like it ;)

After all the Beetle really only lasted from 1939 to 1985 in its native form. :P

The 911 is another similar model - but was a too late to the party to call itslef the longest - but its close.

The Chevy Suburban is the longest production run truck of all time.
