Why is there no AWD Hyundai Accent?
 

Hyundai has been a big player in rally for a long time. They make a very good rally car based off of the Accent. So why doesn’t Hyundai put out a production AWD version of the Accent that would compete with the Evo, WRX and STi?

That would really be cool to see.

They would never sell. And as I recall, the rally team didn't do so well.

That would be the first cool Hyundai, but since Hyundai is uncool they have never made it.

Why would anyone want one? I know that these cars sell because they're cheap, but they're too cheap. The Accent has been voted the worst car of the year for the last few years. Giving it AWD would be like putting lipstick on a pig. So what?..Now it can go in the snow and be just as boring in the snow as it is on a dry road? Not to mention the increase in fatalities as this is one of the most unsafe cars on the road. The last thing it needs is encouragement to drive in bad weather conditions.

I'm talking about an all around upgraded Accent. Everyone thought the Impreza was terrible until Subaru came out with the RS, WRX, and STi versions. I think Hyundai could do the same with the Accent if they wanted to. And a lot of the Hyundai models have come a long way, The Santa Fe, Sonata, and Tib are all 3 good cars now.

Also the bone stock base Lancer is a really crappy car too but the Evos are great. So thats what I'm talking about.

They already do offer an AWD Focus, its called the Volvo S40. And I guess Mazda will have an AWD 3 soon.

Well yeah of course I know that. The S40 is too heavy to be sporty but at least it’s a start because it’s the same platform. I will be very interested to see the AWD Mazda 3 though. And it looks like that will be a reality long before an actual AWD Focus is avaliable in America.

Exactly my point, Enthusiasts were never into Mitsubishi and Subaru until the came out with Turbo AWD production models. Hyundai is not going away. They are just going to keep getting bigger and better. And doing a car in this market would help their image a lot. Plus like I said it’s not that far of a stretch since they have had rally cars.

In the mid 90s, at least here in the USA, Mitsubishi and Subaru had probably a worse image than Hyundai has right now. Mitsubishi and Subaru were just cheap, slow rust buckets that no one wanted to buy. And look how much it’s changed in just 10 years.

Oh well. It won't really matter when the V8 RWD Hyundai Coupe comes out in years time. :p

You mean the "Equus"?

I have also heard rumors of a RWD Tib that would also be VERY interesting. They could easily get into the RX8 and Z market with a RWD Tiburon.
