I guess it wasn't a surprise that they won, I mean they one the last few years and only by updating the car they had, a lot of research and money went into it and they did it, pretty good mind, but not a surprise :!: :wink:

Props definitely go to Audi for pushing the technology in motorsport for the good of everyone in racing or everyday commuting.

Diesel has some advantages at the moment that have not been blocked by the FIM - yet :P

I remember Roger Penske (fields a pair of Porsche LMP2 cars in ALMS) in a recent interview stated that the Audi TDI machines are allowed to run a larger fuel tank than the petrol powered competition, even though they get better fuel milage to begin with...

Well thats cheating as that isnt 100% diesel. Its a special type of fuel.

It is a diesel, but it's not the kind of diesel you can buy at the pumps or anything, it's specially developed by Shell for racing purposes.

Much like current racing fuel. I mean you can't just go to the pump and buy racing petrol either.

Sure can't, but the nature of the beast is that it does get better milage, so having a larger tank than the petrol powered competition is still pretty silly.

It seems that the organisers created those rules to attempt to get manufacturers to introduce diesel powered sports cars. It doesnt matter, the rules will change soon and Audi will just re-adjust - and dominate.

Besides, you CAN get racing fuel (110 octane) on fuel stations.

Oh and another thing. I went to the first race of Am LeMans and I saw the petrol barrels. Audi had guards making sure no one got to them and their car was covered at all times so no one would see anything. IF it was the car that did the job itself, then the Special (German shipped) Diesel fuel wouldnt have been that much as a secret.

One of the guys in charge of security told me he saw them spilling some and that it evaporated really fast.

its very differing ways of power, and well, the VEtte is a road car for the track more or less, where the R10 is a pure racing machine... and much more aero work on the R10 obviously

So.... the way to beat them is with a 7.0 liter Chevy V8 powered LMP1 car? :P

anyway.... i'm so out of the loop on Le Mans racing rules... Last i tried to know, Group C ran on pump gas... and it was a crap shoot on fuel quality from one track to the next...

those days were filled with real racing, and real speed... today, it seems more about huge budgets to make it easier for the drivers to not have to push it so hard.
