Supercharged Jaguar XKR Will Be Unveiled Next Month
Source: Jaguar | Published: June 12, 2006
Jaguar's new supercharged sports car will make its global debut at the British International Motor Show, to be held at the ExCeL Center in London’s Docklands.

The XKR will be unveiled at a press conference on the Jaguar stand on Tuesday 18 July.

"We are thrilled that the XKR will make its global debut at Jaguar's home show," commented Jaguar's UK Managing Director Geoff Cousins.

"Following the resounding success of the XK since it went on sale earlier this year, we are confident that the much awaited XKR will continue to build on the momentum the car has generated for our dealers."

As with all Jaguars, the new XK is designed, engineered and developed at the company's Whitley Product Development Center in Coventry. There, some of the most advanced facilities in the car industry – including computer-aided design, advanced engineering, vehicle component development, safety test centers and engine testing – are used to create world-class cars such as the X-TYPE, S-TYPE, XJ and of course XK.

The new XKR sports car will be produced at the company's state of the art Castle Bromwich manufacturing center in Birmingham. In addition to being the assembly plant for three of Jaguar's four models, this is also where the aluminum bodies and structures for the XJ and XK are constructed.

Further information including images, specification and pricing will be available nearer the official launch.

Yees, add a little more grunt to the XK and I will be very nice

At last :D
improve it and it will be perfect :)
waiting...

It will be very hard to make it look better as its almost perfect, but a stronger engine will definitely make it a very special car :D

i can't wait for a TopGear test/comparo with the new XKR

I think the regualr XK is way overrated and over priced. I can't wait to see the premium that the XKR iwll bring for what is essentially a gussied up Ford. If it has anything less than 400hp I would easily call this car a joke for the price.

Knowing jag it will have the same god damn engine from the last one, and be brushed off as a true fighter of the German Sport Coupes.

I have seen one or two on the road and they are drop dead beautiful, sound great too. i think its a good thing it "looks" like an aston.

fsandys 06-14-2006 09:32 AM

I think its quite a lazy design personally, and also over priced but as Clarkson said criticising it for looking like an Aston is like criticising a girl for looking 'too' gorgeous!

I don't agree that it is anywhere close to the beauty of the DB9.

nickthaskater 06-18-2006 10:16 PM

It shares a general shape with Aston, but it's a far cry from the beauty that a true Aston has. The down syndrome headlights and weak lines ruin this car, as does the obvious cost cutting (the antenna is ridiculous). They just keep reusing the same old engine setup as well, it's getting a bit boring, especially when Aston took that same engine, and actually made something decent out of it with 380 normally aspirated horses, only 40hp off what I'm hearing this XKR will have, with a supercharger no less.

Combine all of that with the liklihood that the XKR will be priced very close to the Vantage, and you have another loss for Jaguar in my eyes. The Vantage is lighter, the interior is far and away better, the exterior is classier and more stylish, and it's a damn sight near as powerful.

I loved the looks of the previous XK (especially the XKRs still look fantastic)and the new one is a generally good looking car but its front reminds me of the hyundai coupe and it really ruins it for me.They will most probably use again the same 4.2 V8 supercharged engine which is rather disappointing when competition has been equipped with great new engines(BMW's V10.MB's 6.3V8 etc).

The last XKR had a ~$15,000 USD premium over the base XK, an amount that if carried over to this gen, would put the XKR within ~10k of the Vantage.

When you're already talking about $100,000 USD, I would gladly fork over another 10k for the Aston.

I personally like the more GT style of the jag. the aston is more sporty i would say. the Jag is a highspeed traveller. :D and that is what i think they are aiming for.
