With reports of engine fires mounting, Ford Motor Co. is warning owners of 3.8 million pickups and SUVs to have their cruise-control switches disconnected as part of one of the biggest recalls in automotive history.
The automaker said Wednesday that it is recalling a wide range of 1994-2002 model-year vehicles -- including its top selling F-150 pickup -- to fix cruise-control switches allegedly linked to more than 1,100 engine fires.
The defective cruise-control switch has grown into one of the most costly and widespread automotive safety problems since the Firestone tire recall and comes as Ford struggles to turn around its U.S. operations.
Fires linked to the switches have destroyed homes in Texas, Florida, California and elsewhere. In addition, wrongful-death lawsuits have been filed against Ford and two of its suppliers alleging that defective switches caused fires that killed a 74-year-old Iowa woman and a 4-year-old girl in Georgia.
It's the fifth largest auto recall on record and follows a similar recall in January of 800,000 pickups and SUVs built in the 2000 model year.

And those are just two of the 6,060,000 websites retrieved when I typed "Ford Recall News" into Google. When typing in "Toyota Recall News" I "only" get 1,550,000 hits back =p
Face it, every single automotive manufacturer has some type of reliability problem every once in a while. But now that Toyota has a recall, you decide to post it up as if it is some form of defense against the constant scrutiny American cars go through. Open your eyes, Japanese cars tend to be more reliable than their American counterparts. This isn't meant to be a personal attack against you nthfinity, but more like an attack against your arrogance and stubbornness when it comes to your perception on American reliability.

this is a breaking news section. my post was based on information less tehn 24 hours old. welcome to last year Zot
Edit, or should i say April 2001 WTF
oh, and about my arrogance... i gurantee i know more about reliability then 99.9% of everyone on this forum.
and, where oh where did i mention that american cars are more reliable then japanese cars? NOWHERE.
your attack couldn't be more personal
somebody was stupid, and mentioned that their Yodas have historically been reliable. I pointed out the falacy of his argument by stating the truth that my families history with domestics has been identical to his with the Yoda's.
that has ABSOLLUTELY nothing to do with anything you said. you clearly just hate american cars, and want to make it an US vs. Them thread like so many other places.
my "arrogance" comes from years of study, and in hours and hours of dealings with big wigs in the major manufacturers.... where does yours come from?
