Who is killing off the electric car?
 

I came across this article about Electronic Vehicles (EV) written by an owner of a RAV4 EV. It is a VERY interesting article about his RAV4 EV which gets when compared to a gas engine, 166mpg (That value was calculated with the average gallon costing $3 a gallon, using $3 of electricty or 1 "gallon" of electricity)

Even more interesting is the fact that there is a big group of powerful organizations trying to stop the production/advancement of electronic vehicles.

and where exactly does his battery go when he can no longer use it? batteries "life" time is much much shorter then that of a petrol engine... and there is no 'safe' way to dispose of it. That fact alone makes it less eco-friendly then 10 years of hydro carbons, and CO emmited

What about reviving the old overheaqd gantries from the elctric trolleys in the urban areas so you run off electric gantry in town, extending the life of the battery? ;) :P

Batteries, just like all technologies, are getting better and better. The battery's are obviously replaceable when they cease to store energy.

There are ways to safely dispose of batteries. I'm sure you've seen those receptacles at various best buys and dumps specifically batteries. Although we do have a proper way to dispose of these batteries doesnt make it neccessarily safe for the environment to throw them away.

^Dont forget the cost of energy used to store, transport, maintain. Nor the pollution from the coal burned to power. The reality is, the electric car is being killed mainly cause at the moment it isn't viable.

We're going to store, transport, and maintain energy with or with out electric cars.. Nuclear is making a comeback as a major powersouce too..

Not to the extent your thinking. The US had rolling blackouts in some states only 2 years ago. If you think it can support everyone having electric cars your bonkers. And for something to make it in the rest of the world (no offense) it needs to make it in the US. The capital base is the largest there. As for nuclear, only some places.. The enviro wack jobs wont let them be built here.
I think electric cars are a pipe dream.. as are hydro and ethanol. There is something else.. and we will find it.. I actually wonder if its similar to back to the future.. trash.

overall, i think it's going to be a tossup between hydrogen and electricity in short run. Either that or JATO rockets are next :D

after that....hover conversions and i stop hoping for the hollywood version of the future :lol:

Well, not everyone would have electric cars.. but the technology is promising, just imagine solar panels covering your roof to charge the batteries where ever you go..

and not to mention, electric engines have instant power.

For the overall automobile a new form a recyclable fuel would be best.. just a matter of figuring out how to extracting energy from anything(garbage)

just like horses worked for 8,000 years... is there any real reason gasoline couldn't just be good enough for the next 100 or so? ;)

Let's just get on with enjoying life and stop worrying about "saving" the planet... I mean, if the planet was to have lasted forever, do you honestly think ANY thing would have evolved/been created/formed/appeared on it's surface?

Besides, did the ancient summarians worry about how we would feel? No...

I just don't like the fact we're getting anally raped by the oil industry. And by we I mean everyone exept for them.

I know there is nothing cool about a silent sports car.. no emotion and such.. But you can't deny the performance factor..

But the energy consumption is no different to any other power source... ;)
