Could somebody please tell me how much (approximately) would getting your car RWD cost.
Oh..and how reliable it is :)

For example a VW Corrado 2.9 V6

a while ago I think there was a guy who converted his focus into a RWD car. Ive forgotten how much it supposidly cost. But at least you have summat to look for now. Which is a RWD focus, check google for it, might be worth a shot :)

It's not easy and it definitly isn't cheap. You would need to rework the entire driveline. All new components. Instead of your transmission being connected directly to the drive axle, you would need to install a driveshaft to the rear. Probably a new tranny as well that is suited to rear wheel drive. Not to mention flipping everything around down there and that has problems of it's own as the underside of your car was not designed to gave a rear drive axle or any of the components that go with it.

Honestly...youd be better off just buying a car that is already RWD. Save time, probably money, and it would be way more reliable than anything you would attempt on your own.

Or maybe just drive it backwards and tell people that not only is it RWD but also RW steering.

I heard PepBoys have a RWD/BodyKit combo package...

No, I don't think doing this for my own car. Me and a couple of friend just came up with the idea and I wanted some info.

No matter how cool it would be to transform a FWD to RWD, it would just be too much time and money. Pick up a 240SX for cheap RWD fun..

If you can do it yourself (i.e removing the labour ££) then it is easily done to the right car. I personally know of two projects along these lines. One is a ford Fiesta with a Focus RS engine and 4x4 transmission off an RS2000.

Anything is possible, and it is not all to do with money. The point is about creating something unique; a personal challenge - therefore purchasing a RWD car to start with defeats the point.

If, however, you don't have the skill to do it all yourself, then things start costing a LOT of money. A lot of rally prep companies (in the UK) will take the job on. The easiest way is to start from scratch and make a space frame to accomodate all the drivetrain.


As for the RWD focus; I believe that was the RS8, and the cost was to do with the whacking great V8 up front. The RWD conversion was simple in comparison. The were able to use the current transmission tunnel and exhaust channel to rin everything down.

The focus is converted to to RWD there quite easily, namely because all theyve done is fabricate the transmission tunnel and suspension mounting points, the suspension, drivetrain, gearbox and engine are all straight out of a sierra cosworth. If you dont have a donor car of similar size for drivetrain and suspension then your pretty screwed as everthing has to be custom and that means serious money, and you need to know what you are doing so the thing actually works!!!!

In that corrado you'd be better off buying another VR6 with a blown engine, cut teh entire front subframe out of it, fit your engine, modify the suspension and stick it in the back of the car, RWD Rear engined, its FAR easier than making it front engine'd RWD.
Your pretty screwed to start with really because there arnt and RWD VW's to butcher to fit in the corrado.

i would say find a 4wheel drive VAG car from a scrappers and then maybe go from there with the gearbox,drive train etc
