A team of British engineers are about to unveil a ground-braking supercar that will have over 1000bhp per tonne. And it's not another Veyron.

465kg, 500hp (@10,500rpm, supercharged 2,4l V8), 3g cornering and braking,100mph in less than 5 seconds.

With the first prototype nearing completion the two engineers have moved into brand-new premises that form part of a new automotive business park located at Farnham in Surrey.

Commenting on the inspiration for the Freestream T1 Ben Scott-Geddes said: "We wanted to demonstrate our ability to design from scratch a no-compromise but usable and reliable sports car with the whole vehicle meticulously engineered from the ground up, so as to offer customers a truly unique experience with a full aerodynamic performance package which at present can only be found in a high formula racecar."

Commenting on the critical wind-tunnel testing co-founder Graham Halstead added: "As well as offering a unique racecar performance experience we were equally concerned to make the car as safe as possible. The result is an extremely stable aerodynamic platform to complement its feather weight of 465kg and compact powertrain which delivers 480bhp from a bespoke 2.4-litre V8 F1-specification engine. The driver and passenger will experience extremely rapid acceleration as well as 3g cornering and braking performance."

"Our aim is to move the performance envelope up to current sports-prototype levels thereby setting a new benchmark for a road car exemplified by its agility and handling abilities," said Scott-Geddes. "We’ve spoken to enthusiastic owners who have become frustrated and bored with their regular sports and race cars, whose potential is heavily restricted through constrained engineering and race formula regulations. In that respect we’ve torn up the rule book to give customers what they ultimately desire: a road car with an uncompromised yet safe performance experience."

cerious... this seems remarkably similar to the Allard J2X... in my mind, the J2X is the most exotic aerodynamic race car ever made... bar none... this car seems part Enzo, and part J2X.

i am in love with this car... for a tad bit of history (i'll go in detail another time)

the downforce created by the aerodynamics on that Allard J2X is ridiculous!!

It definitely seems as if they've taken a the exact aero design of that car..

No matter how impressive the figures are, after the initial excitement fades away I'd probably take a veyron over it or, better still, the MF1, if it ever comes or the 1000hp Saleen S7 etc.
It's just a sort of an "Ariel Atom" with better aerodynamics and more power etc. The usability and practicality is rather limited. Too simple and overfocused to me.

according to the saleen representatives i've spoken with... it is already 50--state legal, and some are being built right now with the 1000 hp figure ;)

37 750hp models were produced in 2005, they expect about 50 in 2006 to be built

I just wonder how good the "structure" is in an accident?

The thing is very light, and anything that light is bound to fail in "some" rigidity tests. Sure it has carbon fiber on it, but CF is only so light and if that thing was made of steel instead, it would still probably only weigh 600kilos max (didn't CF have a weight ratio of 40% that of steel? and something like 60 or 70% that of aluminium?).

Anyway... what I'm saying is that if you were in an accident in that thing, even at low speeds, will the technology involved in designing it, ensure that the correct "safety cells" have been developed in order to create a protective region in the drivers cabin area, whilst providing deformable regions at the front, rear and sides in case of impact?

Also, it doesn't have a radio or aircon I would think...

But I guess none of that REALLY matters if you want a race type car. If you crash, might at least crash in style, eh :lol:
