6.3-litre engine: We've already brought you photos of the refreshed E-Class saloon, but here's the estate version - and it's the range-topping E63 AMG. With its AMG-developed 6.3-litre V8, as used in the S63 AMG, it's thought to develop 470bhp-500bhp.

AMG styling: As with the mainstream E-Class models, the E63 features a new-look front grille, bumper and taillights, plus extra AMG body styling kit and unique wheels.

Suspension modifications: All E-Class models will receive minor modifications to suspension and steering, and will lose the SBC (Sensotronic Brake Control) electronic brake-by-wire system, which has proved unpopular and a little problematic.

Mild make over: These mildly made-over models will be launched at the Geneva Motor Show (March 2006); Mercedes hopes they will stave off the competition from the increasingly powerful 5-Series and A6 ranges (check out our other spy shots stories on the upcoming M5 estate and S6 Avant) until the all-new E-Class arrives in 2008. This is expected to feature Mercedes' new camless engines with electrically-driven valvetrains, and turbocharged, rather than supercharged, units. Hybrid versions are also likely. In the meantime, Mercedes is to offer new direct-injection petrol engines in the E-Class from next year.

I thought that this new engine wouldn´t be build into the "old" E-Class. A new one is coming in one or two years.
