F1 will go to Indy in 2006

Indianapolis will stage next year's United States Grand Prix, hoping it passes off a good deal smoother than this year's edition.

This year's race on June 19 descended into farce when seven teams refused to take part on the safety advice of their tyre supplier Michelin. Only six cars started with Michael Schumacher's Ferrari scoring a hollow victory.

Thousands of spectators, disgusted at the fiasco, had their entrance fees repaid by Michelin and the French tyre company has also promised to provide 20,000 free tickets for next year's race on July 2.

Indianapolis' race track manager Joie Chitwood said Wednesday: "Despite this year's events and the clouds hanging over the race, staff here at Indianapolis have never stopped working towards 2006 and to promote Formula One in the United States."

The date is subject to approval by the sport's governing body, the FIA.

Now I have to consider do I take the chance and actually go.. questions questions.

Eh......maybe they should look for a new US venue. Indianapolis wasn't the original USGP track anyways.

...maybe on the West Coast (Socal) this time...with the glamour of Hollywood and our plentiful sunshine.

mayve that'll never happen, but one can only dream.

That would suck.. Central location is always best.
Take it back to Watkins Glen so us east coasters can enjoy it. You Californians horde too much of the good events as it is.

*Actually the track Id like to see them on is road atlanta.. .Never happen, but damn nice very technically difficult track.

Do go. I should be there. Not that that's really a reason to go. :)

BLah, Indy is the worst track on the calendar. US has so many world class classic tracks and they pick the shitiest and the ugliest one of them all.

gucom 09-22-2005 06:33 PM

but also the one with the biggest history...although i agree that they should pick a nicer track

Indy has the most history of pretty much any track here. BUT i really wouldn't complain if they went to Laguna Seca :D If Ralf thinks he had problems at indy, wait till he tackles the corkscrew

I'll be at indy next year, and money willing, i'll be at montreal too... but that whole french canadien thing has me slighly concerned :P

i agree with gray that Road Atlanta is one of the great tracks here, as is watkins glen. Leguna Seca is quite good too... but a centrally located track i think is quite ideal... although, one day i would love to see it return if only for a year at Belle Isle in Detroit... and if that were to take place, i dont doubt F1 will have two races in the US once again... i can only hope it becomes that successful here.
