I just saw on TV that for Kobe Bryant's wife's 19th birthday, he got her a yellow Murc and paid $400,000 because of an automatic transmission conversion?? Geeezus...

I wonder why he didn't just get her a Murc with the E-gear?

The media really just dropped everything after making it a headline for so long. I think what happened was that the girl stopped cooperating with the prosecution, so the case was dropped...and the girl then was supposed to have filed a civil lawsuit, but I think that was settled.

The wife, who was 19 when she got that Murc, knows she's got the good life and hit pay dirt with Kobe. At the very least, she's going to stick it out for 10 years, when alimony becomes permanent. Before that, if you divorce in California, you only get alimony for 1/2 of the years you're married, after 10 years, you get it until you remarry. That's why Tom Cruise divorced Nicole Kidman after 9 years and 11 months.

There's a great quote from a movie I once saw. The basic story was one where an older brother was in the Chinese Triad and the younger brother, who didn't know, was a cop. The brother gets nailed, goes to jail and tries to go clean when he gets out of jail, but the Triads basically smears him and makes it impossible for him to "get out". At the end, the little brother ends up getting screwed as people start to suspect he's a bad cop because of his brother, who was in the Triad and still seems to be involved to some degree (because the Triad won't let him out)...although they nail the head Triad guy at the end, while he's being taken away in cuffs, he says to both of the brothers:

I've got money, I can make black turn to white. Look at your brother, even though he's white, he's been turned to black. I've got money, I'll be out tomorrow.

I'm not judging Kobe. I don't like him. I know he had an affair, he admitted that much...was it consensual or not, I don't know...I didn't see the evidence.
