McLaren SLR, Koenigsegg CCR and an amazing Volvo Amazon

As mentioned in the motor sport section I was at the World Powerboat Champions.
Check out the boats in this thread: http://www.motorworld.net/forum/showthread.php?t=30243

One thing was the amazing boats and the races, but the circus surrounding the event was an experience of it's own. It's a sport for rich powerfreaks, and this was shown by the kind of cars present. There were way more expensive cars in town than I'm used to.

There were stands with boats, motorbikes and expensive cars at the docks. The MB stand had an SLR, and there were two Koenigsegg CCRs there! One CCR was owned by the man behind a phone company, that was main sponsor of the event. The other one was the factory's own endurance testing car. This was the one that set the 388km/h speed record at Nardo and lapped the Nürburgring in 7:39. I have actually seen the worlds fastest production car!

I first felt lucky when I had felt the leather interior of the SLR and heard one CCR running and reving on the stand. When I was leaving the area with some friends, Christian Von Koenigsegg, the Baron himself, came driving in the endurance test CCR. There was a lot of traffic after the race, so I jumped on my bicycle and was able to follow him. I rode right behind him for about 2 km through the town center. I even had time to find my camera and take a picture at a red light. It sounds really nice when driving. A potent but cultivated sound. I didn’t feel that it was very loud, but the Baron was driving with earplugs. Standing there one meter behind the exhaust at red lights, feeling the warm wind on your body is great! Because of the traffic he couldn’t accelerate like I wanted to see that car, so I let him go after a few km.

First, the SLR. Look at that flat-bottomed car!

This is the endurance test CCR at the stand, and in the street waiting at a red light.

Ten minutes later I captured this beauty in the street. A Volvo Amazon with a custom paintjob. Amazing!

It didn't strike me untill i got home that I didn't have any pictures of Volleviks yellow one. It was put in the corner of his phone companys stand, so there were allways a lot of people around it. It was much easier to shoot at the Koenigsegg stand because there was just the car and information about it. Less fuzz makes the crowd smaller...

I'm sorry about the bad quality of the scans, by the way. The paper pictures are crystal clear. I blame Kodak, they scaned them for me.

Well the owner of that CCR put safety above top speed , that`s why he opted for the rear wing.

:)

Bring on the downforce !
