New "super" Vette

Hi,
It seems that GM is getting very serious about having the Z06 being able to beat Ferrari and Porsche. They are developping a supercharged version of the 7l engine that lapped 7:40min at the Nurb with Jan Magnussen behing the wheel.

Yes..and with a price tag starting at $100,000 US, it' will be the biggest rip-off GM has ever attempted. Supposedly it's justa supercharges Z06 with about 600 hp.

You can build a regulat C6 Z06 way over those numbers, without a supercharger or turbo, (NA), for WAY WAY less than that. I hate when GM tries to pull this shit.

Its a little more then just a supercharged one.. look at that thread..

The car is 300 lbs less then the zo6.

For that kind of money...I'd want a lot more than a 300lb weight loss an 100 extra hp. But that wasn't my point Graywolf....

My point was just that it's not worth waht they'll be asking...not by a long shot. Especailly when you can take a regular C6 Z06 and do much more to it for a lot less money.

Totally agree, with a 7 litre engine it's feasible. Maybe they are having some issue with the usability
Anyway even with a supercharger, 600hp from a 7 litres supercharged engine is defenetly not impressive... it rather be around 900hp

Here comes the retarded hsp/liter arguement.. despite the fact that its 600 hp from a smaller external footpring engine that weighs less then most engines youd get with 4 litres.

You get less then that for a 35 k increase from most cars you dont do yourself.. The weight loss is the big deal, not the hp. That and the better suspension.

Supercharging or turbocharging that engine is somewhat of a challenge though. It's high Compression Ratio makes it really difficult to run decent boost without worrying about detonation.

That being said...it should still be able to put out more than 600..thats only a 20% increase over stock. Shit...I'm getting over 50% over stock from my supercharger in my C5.

My feeling are that the way to go with this engine will be an agressive head/cam package with headers and cat-back. Should be able to get that engine up to 650 easy without the issues of a turbo or supercharger.

THats my point.... do it yourself and save a shit load..and get better numbers.

YOu can always gut your car for free - there's your weight loss.

graywolf624 07-05-2005 06:12 PM

Yes but.. if gm is really shooting for a hyper car to target at ferrari owners.... ferrari owners dont modify their cars on their own.. Its a different market.

Yep, add to that a custom engine management system (a la ZR1), a high volume head injector, a short RAM and inox exhaust pipe and you can jump to 700 hp...

although you can mod another corvette and make it faster thant his one for cheaper... isnt that generally the story for any supercar? I think this corvette looks great, and I cant wait to see how it performs on the street. I am glad to see GM is taking a big step up in their performance line.
