Well if the media giants weren't so greedy in the first place...

CDs were more expensive to buy than cassette tapes yet cheaper to manufacture, ditto with DVD vs VHS... :x

Redistribute for money or for free? I dont get how anybody can put me in jail for three years for putting up a movie from my home free of charge.

depends where you buy them, i'm quite happy to wait a month or two before buying, for example layer cake was 16.99 on play.com now its 6.99 delivered, pretty good value iMO. We do get some added value in terms of special features too usually.

However i'm not defending them alot of what they do to persue consumers is apalling. However prerealeases are more likely to hurt the movie makers IMO.

I have an orginal DVD movie here, and the anti-piracy blurb in the opening (which mentions free display as an infringement as well) is displayed in French - so I am guessing the Kanuks have an under table deal with the Feds... :P hehe

Well that is exactly the reason as to why they will have 100% pahsed out VHS by the end of this year from American Production Companies. they have blatenetly told us that the profit margin for VHS is soo low when compared to DVD. but you do usually get tons of extra features on DVD that you can't get with VHS and personally I enjoy them I have watched every movie I have with the Commentaries just to hear what they have to say and it's usually either funny or interesting and informative. The best is the stupid anti-piracy adds they play at work while I ironically wear a shirt that says "I Steal Music Off the Internet" under my uniform. Every and I mean Every (except when I first by it) CD in my car is a burned copy so that if it gets scratched I don't really care. And every CD I have is ripped on my PC so that I can listen to them easier. I have to admit there are certain CD's I have to get online because they don't offer it in the US.

^ I only ever take 'copied' CDs out in the car - if your CDs get stolen you have the originals at home to copy from again, and you lose 5-10cents per CD as opposed to $12.99. 8)

Someone please censor the above post.. It very much is something we don't want brining unneccsary attention here.

As for p2p.. I wish we could just abolish these publishers and just let the bands distribute their music. A good band could easily get rich from live shows.

I agree with the first part. An incredibly idiotic thing to say. :roll:

As for the second part, isn't concerts and tours where artist make the bulk of their money? I've read elsewhere that CD's are broken down into points. Something like 100 total. Of which the artist is awarded something like 5 points per CD. The rest covers production, marketing, record labels profit, etc.....

That said, maybe it's time that major record labels rethink their antuquated distribution methods. With the popularity of digital music, Ipods, and whatnot, you'd think they would recognize and new market for thier product. You can still sell CD's and whatnot, but make it available online for a decent price per track, I bet their profits rise. Take a look at ITunes, anyoen know how much money they make every year?
