reducing file size - plz help...
 

hi guys - i (again) need the help from the IT pros - u know, as i´m computer dork #1 in here :wink: - so i have recorded some vids with a camcorder and now have it on my disk, recorded it onto my PC with full .mpeg quality, so the vids are quite big now and i need them with less MB but in more or less the same quality so some kind of compression, this may be very easy again but i have absolutely NO clue how to do all this - any help would be much appreciated....THX in advance... :P

Download a programme called 'VirtualDub' :D It's very easy to use, if you have trouble though I can guide you through the process.

Or I'll do it now... :D

1. Open up the programme and open the file you wish to compress.
2. Go to 'video' and press 'full processing mode'.
3. Go to 'video' and choose 'compression'. Pick the codec (Xvid or DivX).
4. Then go to 'audio' and press 'full processing mode'.
5. Go to 'audio' again and choose the codec. Pick MP3 in the window on the left. In the window on the right choose 44100hz and 128-192kbit/s.
6. Click F7 to save file in specified destination.

....it says "no video frames found in MPEG file" when i want to open the file.... :|

Hmmm...strange...have you tried to watch the file with any programme?? (which one??)

...of course...i can watch it with std media player

Well...give ot one last shot with FLASK MPEG.

OPen up the file. And then go to options--->output format options. Choose video and audio codec (DivX and MP3). Then go to run--->start conversion.

VirtualDUb is designed to work with avi files. When loading mpeg files, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't want to read it.


Which video capture software did you use? Maybe it also has a video compression option?

...hmmm, worked with the other programm, converted it into a .avi file but now i can´t open it any more as media player can´t find right codec!???
