What would be the smallest engine that you'd boost?
 

Hi I was just wondering about that one. I've heard a few people saing that messing with engines smaller that 2.0 litres is a waste of time!
What do you guys think. And what will be the first things that you'd do?

You won't just start by putting a turbo or supercharger, right? :D

I live in a country with a lot of those cars and in my point of view it is a waste of time. Then again those who mod sub-2.0L cars are cheap.

I've a 1.6 litres engine in my car, and it is really lame! But i think a 1.9 litre engine is still enough for beginning driving.

VW's 1.8T would be good enough if properly tuned IMO

i've actually toyed with the idea of sticking a turbo on a 9hp Honda go-kart motor :D

1.3litre hayabusa turbocharged - around 400hp, cant see much wrong with that if put in say a Caterham or mini :P :wink:

There are countless sub-2.0 forced induction motors, specially some of the JDM 600cc stuff like the Suzuki Cappa, cappu, fuckit coffee.

Anyone who's driven a Renault 5 Turbo and then a 1.4TL back to back would probably disagree it's a waste of time to turbo sub 2.0 motors.

I think it should be positively encouraged!

Try a turbocharged Arctic Cat RX... 1.0 litre 230hp, these things rock 8)

Hmm. Well, a Daihatsu Charade GT-ti was the match of a Golf GTI back in the day, and that has a 900CC engine, with an intercooler turbo, twin Cams, fuel-injected and 12 valve engine! 99BHP was good enough for 0-60 in 8.0 seconds!

i think brembo hit it on the head. if the work needed to proporly add forced induction to a car is done and done correctly (i.e. built bottom end, good flow of intake and exhaust, dyno tuned, etc.) a small displacement engine is not a waste of time at all, and can be a lot of fun in the right car.

a good rule of thumb is that most people want 3 things out of their cars cheap, fast, and reliable. however you can only have 2 out of the three. forget where i heard that, it may have even been from JW. :D

just putting a turbo/supercharger on a car without going through the proper steps while it can be cheap, you will either be running on borrowed time or running so conservatively that you are wasting a lot of potential of forced induction.

Daihatsu Charade weights in @ 810 kg while golf GTi back in the 90s is around 500kg more.

I just look at the GTI and Audi's with 1.8T's they are fast little cars and can be very fast with some work put into them. hell I would turbo a 600cc engine.
