that's really damn cool. I love how you can see the effect on the water, and he's not even that close to it. that sound must have been wicked so close up

I think it's the one where it fly by's the air craft carrier and shows it in slow motion where you can see the water vapor. And to be honest i don't think it was a super sonic fly by just because all those people that were on deck watching it would get tossed off their feet. I assume the windows on the carrier woudln't shatter though just because they have to deal with stressful sound waves all the time, but then again they could get blown out by a super sonic, low level fly by.

This is a common misconception about super sonic or above sonic speed. If he broke the sound barrier when he passed them then perhaps. But notice that he passes then you hear him, hense he is moving faster than the speed of sound. The most dangerous part about the sound is when you actually break the barrier there is a boom.

What did i misconcept? I understand the sound barrier very, and either way with how close they are to the plane, if he breaks the sound barrier the sound would hit at about the same time as he passes, the people on deck wouldn't know the difference other than the sonic boom since he's obviously not going any faster than just about the sound barrier. If the pilot is going just over 700mph at mach 1, it means the sound is going at 700mph behind the aircraft but at such a close range to the air craft carrier, the sound moving at 700mph would seem like it was where the plane was. How to explain, but i think you understand, there's just know room for the sound to fall far behind the aircraft, but either way there is a sonic boom that could blow away anyone on deck and destroy windows on that ship if they're not extra strong(which i assume they are)

the plane did a flyby at 700+ .. it didnt really break the barrier in the vid ... thx fer the sweet vid :)

i've experienced Mirage V breaking the sound barrier exactly 100 feet above my head ..... :| :|

btw .. the sound isnt moving at 700 .. its the plane thats moving .... :wink:

Yeah seen that before, that's so fuckin' amazing, must be strange to see that in real life, what would be a pass by at 2200 kph ?

i don't think that the pic is real saadie... just look at the water, it looks like it's been done in a pool or something and the plane was photoshopped in

^it's actually a painting. But i think it's based off a similar pic.

the NASA photo is amazing. i wonder what kind of equippment they were using to capture it.

Sound moves at a little over 700mph, and the F-14 in the video was in transonic flight and hadn't borken the barrier but was actually riding with the barrier. This is from nova This is a real flyover on water.

^^I think that may have been taken at SeaFair, over Lake Washington in Seattle. The Blue Angels have been flying that event for years and constantly do killer stuff like that :D

No prob, i still find it hard to udnerstand and comprehend, but if i remember correctly it was in San Fransisco in 1999, but thats all it said. The blue angels are awesome, when they fly here in chicago they pull some crazy manuveurs between the buildings, it's my favorite weekend of the year.

thats a painting ... i have simmilar paintings too .... but the thingy is it really happens ... if the plane flies low to the ground or water ... the vapours fly in that form and it actually happens ...

exactly what i though when i saw the video ... u would see the bow if it borke the barrier ...
