Well EVO has raised the bar for a good car mag a few times, and i think that we are living more intresting times, considering the cars that have come up recently. Plenty of 200hp+ hatchbacks in the pipeline, Astra VXR, Ford ST, R36/R32, Megane Trophy and so on. And there are also nice newcomers in little bigger cars STI, EVO evolving every year and good fight among semi-supercars and also in supercars. Not to forget 4door saloons, RS4, M5, AMG enhanced MBs, XJR, CTS-V.

Also muscle cars are doing a big come back.

Oh yes, We are living interesting times :D

I've got all the May issues already. Interestingly enough, Evo was the most critical of the Sagaris, pointing out that there are still some build quality issues, regardless of the new ownership.

I agree that CAR has improved a lot in the last year... or last 3 months would be more appropriate. What I find slightly disturbing is how the magazine is increasingly starting to look and read like GQ, perhaps due to the fact that the editor (Jason Barlow) is also GQ's car guy. Last two issues were about supermodels, cool cars, the upper class, and whatnot. I guess that's what they're pushing as their USP.

Top Gear on the other hand... is an odd mix. It's laid out not unlike a tabloid, but still retains an air of authority over the articles it publishes.

I think the only criticism I can throw is that the top 3 magazines (Evo,TG,CAR) rarely mention a car's TRUE cost (overall cost, running costs, etc.), something the "lowly" Auto Express never fails to do.
