wow that does look great but what's the price tag on that? lol

astonmartinandy 03-21-2005 09:27 AM

OMG that thing looks awesome.. no doubt I would have to double my student debt just to buy one though! Full marks to the designer - i'm sure there is some sort of practical need for a CF notebook 8)

so now they have the CF version, y dun they bring out the aluminium version like the Mac

antonioledesma 03-21-2005 03:49 PM

I really doubt that is cf. Just look at the price: Selling price: 196,800 Yen (tax removal 187,430 Yen (thanks to altavista for the confirmation)

and 1 usd is moreless 100 yens, so you have a normal laptop carbon colored costing 1968usd
if you look closer, is more like brushed aluminum

yeah, doesen't look like carbon fibre at all

sentra_dude 03-21-2005 05:17 PM

It doesn't look c/f to me either, na2o, where did it say it was c/f? Its possible its unidirectional weave carbon, but I doubt it. Looks like brushed aluminum to me as well, although I could be wrong...

Either way, it looks pretty cool. :D

T-Bird 03-21-2005 08:25 PM

It's more than likely anodized black Brushed Aluminum. My dad's place does it all the time for Motorola and Air Gun Designs parts.

DeMoN 03-22-2005 07:38 PM

WOW that must be over 3k $ im sure. There was anotherone a while back wich costed that and it wasnt even carbon fiber.

Thad does look nice, but I cant stand TINY laptops, I got big hands.

Pimp Racer 03-22-2005 07:46 PM

Carbon fiber or not I think that thing kicks ass! But however look wise I perfer my IBM Thinkpad over it since mine is all black! :D But that thing would kick my Laptops and my Desktops ass performance wise.

Definitely tite looking. VAIO wasn't the first to do this tho - there were some other smaller companies which did it before. [PopSci has a quick blurb on it in their latest issue - can't bother to find it, but they normally post most their stuff on www.popsci.com if anyone is interested].

With CF becoming cheaper and cheaper to manufacture (remember, this stuff was once only used at NASA and other space-related, high tech agencies etc), we see CF on many more things - Watches, Laptops, Dash Kits, Bikes and everything else you can think of that needs light weight and high rigidity.

The new Lotus Sport Exige uses a new type of cheaper CF manufacturing, and it's the first company to do so on such a large scale. If anyone is interested in that, it's in the magazine scan section on JW (EVO 77)

By reading the translation, it appears to be covered with a thin carbon laminate.
