why my mobo only run the processor at 1533MHz only?
 

hello guys...
i'm having a problem here....
i've just bought a new set of computer....
my specs

AMD Athlon XP 2600+
Asus A7V8X-X VIA KT400 X-Series
Apacer 512MB DDR RAM

the problem is...my mobo only detected and run the processor at 1533MHz only....but at the box it stated that the processor runs at 1917MHz...

so what is the problem here???

Check the FSB in BIOS. It is probably set at 133mhz...it should be at 166mhz. That's the problem I think.

i've set the FSB to 166 but then my pc always hang.....
so i have set it back to the original setting
if i change the multiplier also the same problem happened...
is there any jumper on the mobo that needs to be change its position???

There probably is a jumper on the mobo. Flip through the manual to find out.

When you changed the fsb to 166, did the agp and pci clock change?

What kind of crash did you experience when your CPU is at full speed? Did it boot up at all or it crashed when windows is starting? It's possible that you have defective RAM or the powersupply isn't good enough to handle the power usage. Heat can also be an issue here. We'll need more info to diagnose the problem. Check the core temperature and voltage.

According to http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/sock...v8x/jumper.htm , don't think there's a special jumper to allow 166Mhz FSB.

i don't think my RAM is defect...
because i just bought the computer...
so if i set the jumper to enable the overvolt...can my processor run at its full speed??

When you change the fsb in the bios did you type the number in or did you pick the fsb from a list? Generally the list says 100, 133, 166 or 200 on it.
If you enable overvolt you just set how much more volts your processor gets. It wouldn't be wise to set the voltage for the processor above 1.8, or at least I think it was 1.8.
To test your ram, just run memtest. It's a free program you can download.

From what I know... AMD Athlon XP 2600+ means that their processor is comparable to a Pentium 4 processor with 2.6mgz.

AMD's processors work at a lower MHZ but they perform better than whatever number they show... hence 2600+

Read it on their web or something... they post it everywhere to help confused people. You will see it as less than 2.6, but it will work just as good or better than a P4 2.6

set the bus at 166 and up the voltage to 1.65 , if it boots ok there is a little trick to make it faster , try 200x11.5 and it should do 3400+ . 2300mhz , with a boost in the voltage to 1.75 ... look at the temps also

Your memories are 266 or 333mhz ?

careful, dont overclock it or it may fry if u dont have a good fan.

I've always wondered why Dells, HPs, etc. were so quiet compared to my comp until I read on a forum that they don't even have cpu fans. Just a big vent like thing on the back.

it just might be the RAM .... compatiblity problems ....
i had tht problem .. and i had to goto the dealer three times :| ..
IMO ... if yer not a pro ... take yer PC to where you've bought it ...
