That 'vette sounds incredible, but no real surprise that is dismissed the MB CL600 that easily.. Either way a nice 1/4 run. Thanks for the video :P

I guess there is nothing wrong, the problem I have is that any vid of a vette that I see online is modded. Why is that? To slow in stock trim?

well there are a lot of reasons for that. pretty much the same reason that firebirds and camaros (and mustangs) tend to be modded. the cars respond well to simple bolt ons (not doing serious internal work to the engine). the mods tend to be "inexpensive" for the performance you get out of them. plus the aftermarket for these cars is huge.

also people who make videos of their cars and race their cars tend to modify their cars. not many people with a stock vette are going to be running to the tack every weekend and making videos to post online.

and no its not because they are too slow stock :P

Hehe I know exactly why they mod them, but the Vette is one of the iconic cars of America which I think should not get bastardized by mods mods and mods. You dont see every 2 out of 3 Porsches modded do you?

People are free to do whatever, but In my view they just kill the Vettes image. Why ruin a good NA engine with a blower or a turbo? Thats one of the main issues I have.

People must remember that cars of that grade were built with balance in mind. The engine has that specific torque curve because the engineers most likely intended it to be that way. An elise with a v8 doesnt make much sense does it? Well unless you fit it with spoilers front and back. Well to me a 360 or a Vette with a blower make as much sense as the elise example.

Now if you put the sports clutch on it or something like that because the stock one is just shit, then I see no problem. BUt things like forced induction etc just change what the car is intended to represent/be.

See where I'm were Im going?

sure i absolutely see where you are going, and i somewhat agree. if the mods that are done to the car ruin the cars purpose then it can be distasteful. like an elise with a v8 would be terrible  . it would upset the cars chassis and handling and well, probably everything the engineers had built into the car.

and yea i dont really care for vettes with drag suspensions that ruin the handling of the car, the vette is not built as a 1/4 mile dragster. it is more of a purpose built all around sports car. but simply adding a supercharger to the vette doesnt kill its handling or really upset its chassis but it is a cheap way to really make the car fly along the straights. im sure GM knows that many cusomers mod their cars and have built the engine to be able to accept forced induction. no doubt it is a good N/A engine to begin with but i dont think adding a supercharger to a vette ruins it like it would "ruin" a 360. basicaly i dont see how simply adding a supercharger and a decent tune to a vette changes what the car is intended to be.

i agree with you that someone supercharging their 360 is not really a good route to go and kinda goes against what the engine was built for. basically b/c it was not really designed to accept forced induction. its an engine with small displacement and a high redline and high compression.

is it mods in general that you dont care for, or is it just forced induction on a car that is originally naturally aspirated that bothers you. like if someone mods their vette (i.e. heads cam exhaust etc) but doesnt use any type of power adder (turbo, supercharger, nitrous) is that better in your eyes than the guy that adds a blower to the car?

If it was me I would only change little things that would make a difference in a postive way, but thats just me.

But putting forced induction on a good solid NA power plant just bothers the shit out of me. Its like seeing something very good going to waist. Here we have engineers working hard on a good NA engine and bam someone kills it with a turbo.

Changing the cams and exhaust etc is a much much better option in my opinion because your still keeping the soul intact. Cars are a very spiritual thing you know :D

haha yea i know, but i agree a finely tuned naturaly aspirated screamer can have more of an appeal than a huge blower to me, i guess because they are not quite as common to see. like i prefer the new bmw m5 to the E55 amg.

on the other hand it could be seen as a continuation of the American Hot Rod culture and history. I mean they are real power mods, and the Vette is one of the few real American musclecars still built.

Anyway, awesome vid. The vette looked and sounded mean. Does it have an auto tho? Not that its bad for drag racing, but if I had a vette the last thing I'd look at is an automatic. Takes away all the fun.

True but as far as I know, and my knowledge of American muscle is very limited hot roders didnt really mod Vettes. Looking at the market now classic stock vettes are going for 3 times more then their moded counterparts.

Now modding Stangs and Camaros is were the hot rodders should stick their noses in.

findleybeast 03-02-2005 07:32 PM

yeah true, but most of the american muscle is gone. now the entire market consists primarily of mustang, camaro, firebirds, vettes and vipers. not a huge selection. plus last time I looked the camaros and firebirds are out of production

you do have to be pretty hardcore to get a car like a vette or viper and decide its not fast enough to begin with. such crazy power potential

Nice video!

kksh 03-02-2005 09:56 PM

my 2 cents

If I had a porsche or a ferrari, i wouldn't do any aftermarket modification to it. Mainly due to the price of the original vehicle and the rarity of them. but to mod a covette, I'd do it. And inexpensive modification that's easily done and gives you no too much drawbacks is worth it in my opinion.

wouldn't mind seeing an elise with a turbo strapped on either. :D but not a V8.
