Classics in the Park (180 cars....all kinds)

Today there was a ‘Celebration of the Motor Car’ event at Perry Lakes with about 180 cars on display…it was bloody hot but well worth it, even though the DB9, Phantom and 550M all didn’t turn up as planned :(
As always at these shows its difficult to take pics because of the people and barriers in the way :( , but I'm still pretty happy with how the pics turned out. :)
The carpark was also very nice, those pics will come in my next update of sightings out on the streets. :D
Finally I would like to thank LotusGT1 for making my new watermark (and very quickly aswell)….looks great IMO! :D

Nice photos. I would have seen you there. Did you go for a ride in the Ferrari like you wanted to?
I will post mine in a few minutes.

komotar 02-20-2005 07:00 AM

Niiiiiice!!!!

Don't know where to start...

The DB4 is stunning.

The red pantera has abnormal rear tires....sooo big.

The Jaguar XJ13 is very beautifull. Anyone has any idea how many were made?

The Lamborghini Countach looks like something from a SF film. Awesome machine!
The pic from the rear is my new desktop for the day.

Do you have any more pics of the 340R? I love it!

I'm glad you like the Quattroporte!

My friend is getting married in in July and I'm trying to arange that I will get the quattroporte for 24 hours , so my friend will roll up in a cool car.
I've had some talk with the dealer and he said that it will probably be possible....
Ofcorse I will take some time to make a short video and take a couple of pics....

The wheels on the Shamal are a killer. They make the car much more aggressive. Not that it needs them to look aggressive....

Thx for the great pics!!!

TT 02-20-2005 07:06 AM

Dude, some great pictures!!

No idea who had the idea of such an event inside a park. It is for sure nice to walk around with some shadow here and there, but what a nightmare it must be to take pics!! YOu did a great job, some of them are really stunning like the Countach from the back, and all the others very good!

Thanks for the GT4, one of my fav Ferrari ever :)

BTW, I am no expert but that yellow Vette ain't a C6 ;)

BTW, I see a classic Maser behind the Shamal, maybe a 3500GT, do you have any pics? Same goes for the green one.. looking liek an Indy or Ghibly even but not sure again.. and same goes basically for all the other classic maser in the stand.. any more pics?

Needless to say I saved most of them like there is no tomorrow!

No, because it didn't turn up....and the course was shit and they basically idled around it :(

I spoke to the owner and he said only a couple were ever made because they were not that successful do to the dominance of the Ferrari's and GT40's

Holding the show in a park was bad for photos, but in a way it was nice because if it were out in the open I would have drowned in my own sweat :P
I am also no expert on American cars, so I just took a guess :D
As for more pics, sorry thats about it (besides a few in the carpark)....I could 'only' fit about 130 pics on the camera so I had to be selective with 180 cars on show :(

The Ferrari turned up later in the day and they didn't idle around it when I went for rides.

Lovely pics mate, always nice to see classics so well looked after, and also not totally kept wrapped up :D My favourites have to be the DB4, DB6, both have true style i'd love to own something like that one day.... sure you can go alot faster in a more modern car but vehicles like this are about more than speed, though for sure there were some cars there that could hold their own today, as jeremies last vid showed :D

Actually only 1 was ever built by Jaguar and it is in Jaguar's ownership.
The original car was made to replace the d-type as Le Mans car. It crashed heavily and was eventually rebuilt.
I have an old classic car magazine with a test. The car is driven by Brian Laban, famous motoring author. Awesome test, This car would have been truly amazing.
Information here: http://www.ciltd.co.uk/Replica/xj13story.htm

I am in love with this car! The lines are stunning.
Replicas are being made but are very expensive.

I am very jealous that you got to see one in real life though!

Furthermore the other shots are very good with some very interesting cars! Thanks for them. Seems like a great day out. 8)

yes, next year I will make sure I take more pics of the classic Maserati's
BTW, I forgot to mention I got in for free :D I was walking to the gate with my brother and a guy in a HSV pulls up and hands me 2 tickets and says he's from Shacks Holden (dealer) and had a few spare tickets. After I told him I bought my HSV from Shacks he was even happier :D

TT 02-20-2005 10:25 AM

How much was the ticket BTW?

And I forgot to say bravo to Lotus for your new logo!

It was only $10 for adults, which isn't bad for the amount of cars that were on show :) They also made more money from the charity rides in some of the cars, which went for between $5-$20
Yes Lotus deserves some praise, he did a great job and much quicker then I was expecting :D

cooperluke 02-20-2005 10:35 AM

Nice Park!!!
This was in Australia, right? Never thought there were so many European cars there, and a Lotus 340R!!

Yes it was here in Perth, Western Australia  There are more and more Euro cars here lately, which is a good thing for us car fans :D

possessed_beaver 02-20-2005 11:38 AM

Love the Lotus 340r - did it still have the Motec display unit installed?

Viper 1 looks farmilure, was it still for sale?

i Cannot believe they had a Quattroporte there!!! (here's one i spotted saturday night)
http://img177.exs.cx/img177/3061/img3305large9rn.th.jpghttp://img177.exs.cx/img177/7751/img3306large2qo.th.jpghttp://img177.exs.cx/img177/9545/img3307large2qw.th.jpg

Word is that they just arived and only have 200km on them, and one has been lent to an owner of a few restraunts to drive around in for a while, and clock up some miles on it.

Looks like it was an awsome day!
