I don't think it really has anything to do with the masks.. There a regions there, and even in most countries, where if someone jumped out of the woods with a gun(pellet or otherwise) and moved meanacingly toward a car(hell even if they were dressed like barney the purple dinosaur) chances are his sorry ass would be dead.. Hes lucky the response was only to shoot him and not run him over..
I'd be shocked if the cabby even realized the guy was wearing an osama mask.
