I read an article in car magazine testing this car and they were comparing it to a zonda (can spell the name of the manufacturer "pagani"?). I hate evo's simply becuase fitting a massive turbo charger to a 2 litre engine is not automotive exotica IMO. But a 7 litre NA V12 is!!! I respect this new evo because of its BHP per £. Car magazine have got the totally wrong end of the stick when it comes to performance cars, its not just about power :x . The evo is apparently quicker from 0-60mph and I got the feeling that the journo who wrote the article was getter an erection over this. There was no mention of 0-100mph or 50 -100mph etc which IMO is far more relivent for cars producing this kind of horse power, than teenager wet dreams 0-60 times for which family hatchbacks are benchmarked on.

Just read the October issue of CAR. They compare it to the Zonda
|
Performance cars are really all about power. Evos have a racing pedigree rooted in WRC. Normally we would see the Evo being compared to an Impreza but for this instance Subaru doesnt have anything comparable so I guess they decided on using the Zonda and the Murcielago as they clock about the same time.
Once Mitsu UK starts selling the final car and offer one to journos for testing we'll see how much brute force Mitsu was able to squeeze out of the cars. Mitsu UK will only sell 100 units of this car only for the UK market while Ferrari only made 399 Enzos worldwide. |

Sorry but that’s a load of rubbish. If that were the case everyone who wanted a high performance car would go and buy Nissan skyline and tune it to 1000BHP. So ask yourself, why don't they? |
Nissan Skylines arent being made anymore?
People dont like buying second hand cars? People dont like Japanese cars? People dont want to bother with tuning cars? People arent willing to spend on tuning cars? People want a stock performance car? People dont want to void their warranties. People find 1000BHPs too much performance. People can afford to buy & are willing to live with the headaches of buying a car like the Zonda? Would people be so mesmerized with the Ford GT, Carrera GT, McMerc SLR, Enzo, Zonda, etc if they didnt post impressive 0-62mph times or be among the top 10 cars on TG's lap times? Sure they're nice to look at, they're of a limited run/availability and are devilishly expensive but if they're all show but no go then that's sad. Kindly explain to me what performance cars are all about? It cant be all about engines then we'd need to include the Ford Thunderbird. As far as I'm concerned performance cars or big engine displacement cars does not equate to exotic cars. The Evo is the faster car thus it is the better car than the Zonda in terms of performance. |

OK the skyline was a bad example. You said that with a performance car power is the only factor. What about handling, grip, noise, style? You mentioned "all show and no go" what about all go and no show. Its each to their own.
Just out of curiosity if you had a choice between a car with a 500BHP 7 litre V12 or a 500bhp 2 litre 4 pot turbo, which would you choose? (and answer honestly  ) And by the way the new evo is not quicker than a zonda only from 0-62mph. |
CSedl87: Just citing some reason why someone wouldnt want to get a Skyline & pump it up to 1000bhp. Too much of a good thing can be bad to some people. There are headaches to driving a Zonda. Would you make it into your daily drive for one? Does it have an adequate boot? Does it seat 4-5 people? Will it handle city streets with all its defects and speed bumps? The Nissan Skyline GTR stopped production with the R34.
Dave1: Dude the Evo is designed for rallying (tarmac, gravel, snow) and that requires extremely good handling and grip that's why it's AWD. While the Zonda is RWD because it was designed to go on well paved roads. WTF are you mambling about handling and grip? Noise and style are really minor considerations when you're talking about performance cars and more to do with exotics/super cars. That's why even a riced out Civic can be considered a performance car if it goes fast enough and handles and grips well. Then again you'd spend bundles upgrading a Civic to Zonda-like performance that you may as well plunk down for a MR or a WR1 Performance cars can be excused to be all go and no show. Hell man if Minardi were offered a car that would could leave Schumi in the dust but looks like a loaf of bread I bet they'd get it. Man cannot motor alone on an engine, he must have a complete car. As a car to go on dates and have TT take photos off I'd pick the Zonda but for a daily drive I'd pick the Evo. :) Using a different line of thinking I could buy one FQ400 for everyday of the week for the price of just one Zonda. I honestly preffer a Lambo/Ferrari/Porsche over a Paganni. ;) The unwashed masses wouldnt know what to make of a Zonda. The Evo accelerates faster than the Zonda. Honestly, the only place you can test the top speed would be on a race track, an abandoned airport landing strip or some parts of the autobahn. |
