My car for today - Audi TT Roadster (+ a couple Ferraris)

As some of you already know, in around 2 hours I will be off to drive the 400 km to the Supercar Rally 2004 in Lugano :) and I wanted something funny to go there :D Europcar had some special Autumn offers for its cabrio/roadster cars, so I jumped on the TT, wich costs like a Golf V 1.6 would cost, but is sure a bit better :D and it would be nice to do a mountain pass up to 3000 meters over the sea with no roof :D

I picked it up 1 hour ago and took some quick shots before coming home :D

I thought it would have been the 150 hp, but it's the 180 hp one! Sadly still FF, not "quattro", but 180 hp isn't too much for the front wheels alone, so it's still cool

I just had a quick blast in it before coming back with the pics and it's for sure a fun car.. yes it has a typical Audi steering wheel.. very light and not really telling you that much about what's going on, but it's not that bad, especially when you have to drive 800 km in a day and take a mountain pass twice :D
Used to my BMW 320i (150 hp), the TT feels sensibly quicker, in any gear I think and even from the lower revs despite my car is an NA straight 6... but my car was built in 1995 ;) and engines evolved quite a lot in the last 10 years, and the TT is also lighter...
I'd take an NA car any day, but it's nice to drive a Turbo one every now and then even if this one is for sure no EVO or Impreza ;)

I'm sure it will be a blast!

Ah now for the two Ferraris I saw yesterday.. sadly the TR was moving and I was unable to catch up (red light), so the only pic I got is this one:

The 348 was parked but I was passing by in a rush, so I only took a quick picture from the side window ;)

Now let's check for a while the board and then I will be off untill tonight :D

Firstly I hope that you enjoyed with the TT experience although its not my favourite car to drive....secondly...i do prefer the front wheel drive TT once i dont like the grip sensation that most quattro audi does, thirdly for me its almost impossible to compare between the turbo cars and the aspirated cars when talking about the power in low revs...BTW, once you had the chance to ride it in twisty roads it must have been a nice experience since the TT is an agile car and it has a good handling...finally its a shame that you didnt have the chance of driving the DSG model of TT...once i dont have any clue from someones experience about this gearbox

Finally....the black 348 looks even as great as the red 348 IMO...greetings

The Audi TT is the perfect car for someone called 'TT' I suppose. :D
The Ferrari's look great and I look forward to the pics from the Rally. :D

Just remember: "my" TT comes from my name: Matteo ;) the Audi TT isn't my favourite or dream car :D

Ford Capri 2.8i 10-01-2004 05:38 AM

all right......i thought that the TT nick was according to the Audi model, or the SUVs in general once in french and Spanish(and in every latin language must be the same) TT means the SUV vehicle segment as well

TT 10-01-2004 05:41 AM

Could be also TT as Twin Turbo, but no, it's not really car related :D

I didn't know where it came from, but I did assume that it wasn't from the Audi TT.....you standards are set higher than that.
But its still fitting in some way I think, or maybe a 996TT would be better. :D

Hum.. I've driven it once.. and the car seems a bit slow for 180bhp...
I tried it against my dads 320d, and on a straigh uphill, he left me and the TT far behind... :( :(

Hell, the 320d pulls quite strong, I'm not that surprised :D and the TT with 1300+ kg isn't really a featherweight sadly :D

Ford Capri 2.8i 10-01-2004 05:56 AM

Yeah....and i dont want to think with the quattro version which is truly the AWD version and it must weight 80kg more at least than the front wheel drive equivalent

Anonymous 10-01-2004 06:17 AM

Cool Matteo, glad you managed to work out the roof in the end  so you won't have to freeze all the way there. Good luck for the trip, though i think you've gone by now.... but i didn't get much sleep so thats my excuse :P and i'm sticking to it

Though they do do a 225 bhp version to compensate for the extra weight :D

TT 10-01-2004 06:24 AM

I've driven a Seat Leon Cupra R with that engine, and 4wd... and it is amazing!! It has nothing to do with the 180bhp version of the Audi TT!!

So, you got the TT after all. :D As we've established before we're both no big fans of the TT, but also that it sure is nicer than a bland Golf. I know you're not reading this before returning from Lugano, but have fun!!

This could be a new Sniff Petrol topic: "Famous internet mods in similarly named cars" LOL

gis 10-01-2004 11:49 AM

well you are long gone and i only really just got online,LOL but hope u have a good time and cant wait to see the pics when u return :D
