i driven on those roads in a rental corolla, fun but wasn't an easy task. plus it was greasy like that.

Did you know that Sandrino Minari (the old rally champion) the old official Lamborghini test driver (for the diablo before the new guy.. Billbaro) was in Targa in a VT diablo??
Also, some of you may know this but an F40 was also written off in Targa by Chas Kelly. It was sent back to the factory for an official repair job. I never found out if they did repair it or not. Anyone know where this car went to?? |
I don't mean to be annoying, but you might want to know what their exact names are, so: Sandro Munari and Valentino Balboni. Even JC got it wrong the first time (he called him Bilbao), so no need to be ashamed. :wink:
I would loved to have seen that, BTW. Munari in a Diablo on those roads. Madness. Normally the Diablo is already a handful, but driving it balls out in those conditions... You really need a guy like Munari for that. |

No its not a Hill Climb. I doubt Minari would travel half way across the world for a Hill Climb :D
Its a race around the Australian State of Tasmania. It is run in stages like a real rally. Its a tarmac rally. Its run over 5 days where some of the states most pristine roads are closed off to the public while the cars do the circut. "The total distance next year will be approximately 2000km, with about 450km in 44 competitive stages, the same number of stages as in 2003" "Targa Tasmania is an exciting International Classic… a tarmac rally with competitive stages on closed roads for the best touring, sports and GT cars in the world. Its inaugural year was in April 1992 when Tasmania hosted this distinguished International motoring Classic. The competition concept is drawn directly from the best features of the Mille Miglia, the Coupe des Alpes and the Tour de Corse. However, Targa Tasmania is not a slow-motion re-run. It is a genuine "red-blooded" motor sport competition. It is also a unique annual opportunity for the owners of sports cars and GTs to drive them the way they were designed to be driven, on some of the most exciting and challenging tarmac roads in the world. Targa Tasmania caters for up to 300 select cars including many overseas competitors. Entries are selected from Applications to Compete, by a Vehicle Selection Committee. Its a fairly high-budget event. Lots of GT3 porsches etc.. Its professionally filmed every year, and the race film is shown on TV and sold on DVD and VHS. Its the only tarmac rally like it in Australia, and I dont know of anything anywhere else in the world that comes close to it... (no Gumball is junk). Remember that for Targa Tasmania normal roads are closed off for this racing. Its flat out speed. No holds barred. No speed cameras etc. Its got full government support. More or less like the Monaco GP - except Monaco is a much larger scaled event with F1 and all ;)
