Help with ftp
 

Got myself bulletproof ftp server. When i start it up, it gives me an IP different than my fixed one. Which one is to be used to log on?! :roll:

Do you have your computers networked ? If it starts with a 192 then its the IP of your LAN...you need to change it to your dynamic IP of the outside WAN.

Oh ok. I get it. Just how do i change it... mmmmmm... Thanks Jabba, right on the money.

I use serv-u...no idea about bullet sadly...but I am sure there will be an option to change the IP in there some where.

Btw X-ale, tried to ping to your server but it seems like it isn't even online...

i use serv-u too. but my connection change ip like crazy, and my router doesn't pick it up somehow, so everytime it change, i have to go and renew the ip in my router manually :_( .

Thx guyz, ya the problem seems to be at the router, i spent 3 hours in total trying to figure it out. Got myself serv-U too, will try some more tonight... sorry for the delay 1zippo1... :oops:

Ahh you have a router...yes as the bear from Belgium says you need to configure your router.

On my router you would have to set up a virtual server....with port 21 open directed at the PC on your LAN that is running the FTP server....such as 192.*.* etc

When someone goes to access your ftp ...through your dynamic IP and port 21 your router should route the call through to the PC running the FTP server.

I have done this with PC Anywhere running on my three pc's that I can all control from my laptop.

The problem i got now is what protocol to use and wtf is an ID # has to do with it. The manuals i found are in portuguese, obviously translated from taiwanese so you can imagine the end result being something close to a hot tong (no, not that thong) or a wong dog (no, not a wang). Anyway, I'll grab a screen shot now to show you what i'm up against. BTW, I installed ICQ light so I won't delay these transfers.

I would imagine tcp/ip would be the protocol.

Ok, in the first scroller i got: BASIC, FILTER, NAPT, BIMAP, RDR, PASS; ...
That ID thing is like the first clitoris a 11 year old boy see to me;
the "IF name" ... that would be like IF he touches it, what to do?;
"Protocol" : TCP, UDP, ICMP, 1 to 255; ...
The rest I understand is where I put my internal IP and the fixed internet one.

I think the ID refers to the actual rule you are setting up..in case you wanted to use it again perhaps elsewhere.

Yeah, makes sense. I'll experiment around a bit to see if I can figure it out. If not I'll call up a network nerd i know and pay him some rounds of cachaça (sugar cane alcohol) and caipirinha(s). Anyway, thanks Jabba for the tips. :)
