Yellow Fog lights?

Today I had a conversation about fog lights.
I was told that yellow fog lights provide better visablity (better peneration) of fog.
i figured that since yellow light is higher wavelenght (lower energy), since white light has the entire UV-VIS spectrum is it less prone to "Rayleigh scattering" of solid particles of fog.

Wonder is this is true and if not what are the best fog lights for a WRX. Stock are good but better is well better. Its simply a matter of changing the bulbs.

well the WRC cars use white lights dont they? so i guess there can't be much wrong with them.....

Yes considering nobody uses yellow foglights anymore since the early 90s, I think it's not true :D

Foglights are NOT MADE TO SEE! They are made TO BE SEEN!
You are thinking about the rear foglights. The ones in the front are made to see. They are often close to the ground to light it up instead of just flashing into the fog where it won't do much good.

Alot of Lexus GS300 in Sydney have yellow foglights. I once thought they were aftermarket mod, but seeing what kind of people drive them, I am very sure they are standard.

Mate, the whole of Continental Europe does  ... Even people living in Munich make the drive (1000kms or so??)

So is that quite a big thing in Belgium? The traffic police stopping foreign cars to search for weed, I mean?

new Lexus' still have yellow ones but they are extremely bright, and PIAA still makes yellow fog lamps aswell. WRC cars don't use fog lights they use spot lights there is a difference their lights just penetrate everything like fog.

on my friends P5 the foglights are the yellow turn signals allthough there are the huge "foglights" in the bumper that are white

I thought the reason for the yellow fog lights were because tehy give more contrast, thereby giving better vision in fog. similar to how marksmen wear yellow tinted glasses

SilviaEvo 08-18-2004 03:00 AM

i guess we all know where/how to buy weed and avoid cops
