i want a premier, but i only have my stupid Tama, with my bpro sabians

cho_888 07-17-2004 08:16 PM

that is my brothers kit, it is an artist series and they are HHX. 4 of the guitars are mine and i have a brand new 6-string on the way. One of the marshell amps is my the other is my mates

nthfinity 07-17-2004 10:15 PM

it appears you have 2 taylors, a strat imitation (judging by the pickups) and a heavy rocking ibenez of one sort or another (yeah ibenez is the easy one to pick out :) ) nice set, i only have 2 good guitars myself, and 2 'trainers' (my first guitar, and a good slide electric guitar that i have to re work the tuning nuts, the bridge, etc.

per my primary style electric is marshall all the way :) (although i dont own a stack yet)

how long have you been playing cho?? im going on my 4th year right now.

id like to get a new guitar soon... but im unsure what i really want. SRV fender with... a gibson les paul... i think those two are the ones i flock to the most.

Another Ibanez man! Nice choice, Cho! What model RG's are those? What pickups are you rocking? I'll try to get some pics of my collection up as soon as I can, can't let myself fall behind!

nthfinity: If anything get the Strat (IMO there are better ones than the SRV one). I have a Gibson Les Paul Standard, and I can tell you that its probably the biggest mistake I've made in my life, it sounds awful, weighs a ton, is really uncomfortable to play and has TERRIBLE build quality.
If you're going for that price range, have you ever considered an Ibanez Jem or Satriani model? Next time you're at a guitar store, try one, you might be pleasantly surprised at how easily it plays compared to anything else, and how powerful the pickups are. (mind you, only the expensive, made in Japan Ibanez's are worth it, the Korean ones aren't anything to write home about).
Anyway, these are just friendly suggestions from someone who's been playing a long time, play as many guitars as you can until you find one that you REALLY like, after all, no two strats sound alike.

I wouldnt go a les paul, but an RG series. There is a 320QS and a 570 both with flyd rose's. My 570 has v8 bridge s1 single coil and v7 neck. they sound great and i couldn't be happier. the 320QS is my freiends and goes well. I have been playing for about 5 years.
As for Les Paul's unless you can get an orininal for the first one or two years of production and you ahve a quartre of a million to spend on it, i wouldnt bother. Poor built quality that dosnt resemble the early models that built the reputation.

that acustic is a cole clark a new australia company however i have my dream guitar coming in a few weeks, it is a maton messiah it retails for about $4000 here. The Strat squire isnt mine either i'm am not at all a fender fan.

hey cool we got some guitarists on here!

I just bought the new VOX Valvetronix ad120vtx and I play thru either my Ibanez RGT42 or my RG420 custom* (*don't ask, its a long story) at the moment I've got 5 guitars all up, but at one stage I had 7 of the little buggers....so many stands...and string off cuts....

oh hey anyone wanna buy a ZOOM 9050 in mint condition? or a Behringer FCB1010 midi controller? I don't need em now I've got the VOX....

jpatino03 07-18-2004 11:37 AM

Thats an absolutely beautiful guitar Cho! I know what it feels like to waiting on your new baby that you've worked so hard for, and those first few hours are really magical. You'll have to upload some clips of how it sounds once you get it!

Heath: lol I know what you mean, I've got 7 in the stable right now, and the cost and time it takes to maintain them is running me into the ground.

its quite dificult for me to nail down who i think is the best...
best overall talent ?????
best metal Kirk Hamet overall... but current winner is Adrian Smith (iron maiden)
best shred/virtuoso Yngwie malmsteen, or Michael Angelo... Jason Becker
best blues overall ???
best lighning blues SRV
best acustic blues Lightnin Hopkins
best slide blues. R L Burnside

best progressive rock? poco de lucia :) (i dont think he is human)

i think you may get the idea... but there are so many talented, i cant nail down who 'is' the best

im not looking for a standard 500$ les paul... if i wanted something without the soul of a guitar, id pick up a PRS for the science of guitar.

ive probobly played about 500 different guitars in my life, and i have quite an ear for the tone i look for in guitars. Fender is by far the most compfortable guitar, and is an amazing weapon in the arsenal of styles.

japanese ibenz guitars are good, but the something is lacking, and i have no want for locking nuts to over stress the tone.
something that has set me apart from other guitarists is my entirely costom mexican Fender Strat. scalloped neck, yngwie style neck pickup (duncon) tex mex mid, and seymore duncan dubble coil hotrail wired as a single coil for kicking your ass shred bridge pickup.

right now i have it apart for some electrical fine tuning, but when its back together, ill share some photos.

cho_888 07-18-2004 05:45 PM

ok first of all who taught kirt hammet, joe satriani. obviously he is going to be better. then there is steve vai yngwie malmsteen ect, you are missing a be world of solo guitarist. if you guys want i got a g3 dvd i can upload

jpatino03 07-18-2004 07:13 PM

Vai and Satriani are both pretty good, but Shawn Lane destroys all of them. IMO Kirk Hammett is pretty boring and not all that technically brilliant, almost all his solos are pentatonic, and he hides behind his wah and distortion a lot.

nthfinity: A Les Paul Standard is more in the $1700-$2000 range. And I agree with you on the Sratocaster, its very comfortable, playable and versatile; My #2 is an american standard strat. I just like the Ibanez more because its even more comfortable and infinitely more playable (You can set the action much lower and still get good tone). I've also found a solution to the Floyd Rose tone problem: Have you ever tried a fat finger? They really work.

cho_888 07-19-2004 01:43 AM

i was thinking about getting a hipshot tremsetter what is a fat finger i have never heard of them. If you are looking at that kind of money then i would go for a JEM or RG custom, they look sick. Hey people we should get some clips of people playing up here

jpatino03 07-19-2004 02:11 AM

As soon as I can get something recorded, I'll have one up!

A Fat Finger is basically a small piece of fairly heavy metal that clamps on to the headstock, this reduces the overall vibration of the neck, thus allowing the strings to vibrate more freely. I use one on my JEM and Stratocaster. Not only is the tone improved, it doubles sustain, makes harmonics a lot clearer and louder, and kills any dead spots you may have on the neck.

cho_888 07-19-2004 02:19 AM

you have a JEM wow, thats cool. I think that will be my next investment. Is there much difference between the JEM and an RG. Is it worth the cash? Is your JEM an jem7vwh? with the tree of life down the neck! i want pics! and a custom shot
