Powerbooks - calling all apple freaks ;)
 

Was thinking of getting a powerbook ready for uni... My dilema is this: Should i go out now and buy a high end G4 powerbook or wait until a G5 powerbook comes out (whenever that may be) and take my current shitty pc to uni?? Anyone know roughly when the new powerbooks will be released?? I heard rumours of early next year but do u think its owrht the wait?

thats a tough question dude, apple havent given out many clues on the G5 powerbook, but i suspect its a long long while away considering the cooling problems they will have compared to the G5 powermac cooling systems.

Did you happen to watch keynote? i suggest you go with a powerbook now and sell and upgrade when the new one comes, it wont be sometime soon from what i have read.

Well it's gonna be a while until the G5 Powerbook comes out according to G4TechTV I would invest in a really nice G4 Powerbook and you will be very happy with it Like sikx5 said the G5's are probably gonna be even hotter than the G4 which can get very hot over time considering they are Titanium and not plastic doesn't help too much accept it looks cool :wink:

Yeah, time and time again Apple's execs and industry experts had said it'll be a good while before the G5 PowerBook comes out. My guess and this is my guess, it'll be at least until mid 2005 and definitely not this year.

For sure you'll see a G5 iMac before a G5 PowerBook. Even the iMac is difficult enough, although the new one will be introduced Aug. 31, 2004. It'll be interesting to see if it'll be a G5. If it is then there is a lot of hope that it'll come out early next year and latest by mid 2005.

But if we see another revision of the G4, then it might be even further out (late 2005) than we all want.

So don't worry, it won't come out anytime soon. I picked up my PowerBook G4 1.25GHz last year in Sept and couldn't be happier.

Unlike most other companies in the computer industry, Apple "only" updates their products about 6 to 8 months. The last revision of the PowerBook G4 came out April 19th. (http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/).

well officialy from Apple they have stopped production on the iMac and will not have any more until September when they introduce the new revision not in August and I'm sure they will kepp it as a G4 since the current G4 Powerbook was released before the G4 iMac and by all hints on their website and from what Tehctv has said the new iMac will be a revised G4 proccesor.

Also take note that the current OS X (Panther) isn't tooled to take full advantage of the 64 bit portion of the G5. Only when OS X 10.4 (Tiger) is out will you maximize the G5. Tiger's scheduled to be out in the first half of 2005.

Whether you buy now or by then will always be a good time to buy any Apple computer. :)

Nor will Tiger. Tiger will still be able to run on a G4, thus as with Panther they will have 64 bit extensions, but not a complete 64 bit system.

Remember, Panther came out after the G5 did. And it was introduced at the same time.
