I thought they had already changed the regulations for 2006 and then changed them even more for 2008...so this is for the current season...and not next year?

this is already a done deal. the FIA has already put out changes in regulation starting the 2006 season.

I think adding more weight to cars would slow them down easily. Moreover, more weight to the car means more strain to the engine, thus providing an extra challenge. That said, I think I like F1 as is. Its just more exciting seeing teams keep improving maxing out its aerodynamic efficiency as well as the tire war going on between Bridgestone and Michellin.

I couldn't agree with you more. They should keep the regulations as they are.

theres nothing wrong with speed or regulations. problem is there is only one team and to some extent one driver dominating the sport at this moment. i just think the heads of the sport are just impatient to wait for ferrari to fall off the road or other teams catching up.

i guess mosley is trying to emulate season 1998 when there was a huge shake up in the rules which forced the greatest minds in the sport to totally redesign their cars. even though renault as an engine supplier at that time pulled out of the sport and wlliams used the same engine for the 98 season, it was still good enough but with other aspects of the cars had to change, the domination shifted to mclaren. plus the nicked off wth adrian newey

Actually, RS' crash was the catalyst Mosley needed. I don't recall the section of FIA law, but he has said that teams have 60 days to come up with a solution, otherwise in the medical benefit of the drivers, he will force a solution down their throats.

So much for F1 being the pinnacle of technology....

Do they want to cut down the maximum speeds? or the overall speed of the cars?

Seems a bit weird to ask a team to come with a way of making the car slower instead of faster. If safety is the major concern then they should me making cars safer instead of slower. If Ferrari and Schumacher is the major concern then I don't know what they should do... It's really up to the other teams to catch up!

They don't have a clue of what to do.
They say this, they say that and at the end it will stay the same.
If they change too much they might not get anyone watching it.

The FIA and F1 bosses are to old to have a clue anymore.

Do you mean that faster cars would have extra weights, like some sort of penalty? Or just generally more weight fo everyone, that the speeds would come down?
They use that "penalty weighting" in Super 2000 race. You get 30 kg more in your car if you finish 1st, 20kg if you're 2nd, etc.

I wish also that they would keep the rules as they are. Eventually some driver/team will be able to fight Schumi/Ferrari, hopefully McLaren and Kimi :D

No, what I mean is generally increase the minimal weight of all cars.....say from 600kg with driver to 650kg.

I don't know if u recall, during most races the commentators always mentioned with extra kilo of fuel, the car will slow down by 0.1 sec over a lap.

Well, in that case why don't they just increase the minimum weight spec and race from there, instead of moving to a V8..

i don't agree, i reckon it's the best of it's sport in the world, and if anything make these things faster!

they are incredibley safe, NASCARS have worse acidents imo.

i would agree to the point rased about weight penalties!

no matter what the FIA does, the technological advancement in f1 is so fast that within a year, the cars will go quicker again. even if the FIA changes regulations in certain areas, the engineers will always find a way to get a performance advantage in other areas. therefore, they will slow down for a while, but they'll still get quicker and quicker in the long run.

I also agree with the weight idea.IMO F1.com should have a forum like this and ask people what they want to see happen and max and bernie can read and see if they find ideas that would work.Its win win.We get what we want to se they get slower cars. :wink:

Max Mosley's reaction seems to be a kneejerk reaction to Ralf's accident at Indy and other accidents during testing where drivers faced several g's of deceleration which could be life threatening.

It was mentioned by him that Ralf faced 78Gs of deceleration in his crash. Note a normal human being will pass out well before 9Gs... hence Ralf's state of unconciousness for two minutes after the crash.

However, I think it was pure bad luck that he crashed at that particular spot due to the sudden deflation of the tire. Slowing cars down wont really help him much.
