MB vs BMW

It seems there is a never ending discussion about this.

First of all, I love MB aswell as BMW

Secondly, both have some imperfections.

Third of all, both have more or less same goals.

But does BMW has any supercars? No the haven't.

Does BMW has as much $$ as MB? No, they don't.

Does BMW has a wide variety of models as MB? No

What I'm trying to say, there's no need comparing both manufacters

Because BMW is "smaller" they can work more concentrated, and therefore produce some amazing cars

So please ppl, don't make this MB vs BMW, its quite useless, and trying to portray MB as an "inferior" carbuilder

^^^^^^The name of the thread, I chose to attract attention

For the most part, I agree with what you said about MB & BMW in your first post SPEEDKILLAR...but I think BMW definitely makes better cars, at least in the eyes of a sports-car enthusiast...but that's not what this topic is about?

Umm, what was the point of this thread again?

amanthapar 06-25-2004 12:36 PM

hmmm.... sentra_dude...u said they make better cars..
well has the bmw got any version of the SLR or SL ? or even the CL ?
well... i think both r equal , they are designed for different markets thats it...

What sentra tried to say is that BMW build driver's cars while MB is more into luxury Autobahn cruisers packed with 3000 safety electronic systems you can't turn off ;)

Exactly.

Only that BMW uses better materials for their interiors...

...making them much more luxurious...

...and they can do the autobahn too...

...and any track...

you guys get the picture. :)

BTW, can you all just QUIT calling the SLR a supercar? Ron Dennis himself stated "The SLR is just a GT that exceeded our expectations."

Case closed.

3 series > C-class
5 series > E class
7 series > S class
Z8 > SL
M > AMG

Uhu ;) (just playing around)

Here we go again, is that why MB sells more Autobahn machines.

And ooh yes, a 7 would do miracles on a track, please cut the crap.
Think before you wright something stupid.

ahmedgiyab 06-25-2004 02:27 PM

Guys....think about the past models...MB was always a leader, and BMW was far away...

BMW became good by the 80's.... :)

Its like Audi......they gained their reputation in the 90's.... :)

Mercedes was always a pioneer....

I'm with "SPEEDKILLER"..... 8)

Regarding Merc's...

I own two. A classic 280SL and a C-class. My dad owned a merc too. My late grandfather owned several (including the old CL's, which we've tried to maintain)

...and I'll tell you, based on my experience, Mercedes-Benz TODAY is only a shadow of Mercedes-Benz BEFORE. Ever since the DaimlerChrysler merger, everything turned into shit. You have a CLK which "hands" the driver his seatbelt, while a much more expensive CL which does not. Why is that? Why pay more for a GT which does not pamper you? Do you know that both the CLK and the CL do not have driver memory? This may sound trivial, but because the seats are electronically operated, once a rather short human uses the car before you, and sets the seat that way, you will have a VERY difficult time getting the seat back to the way you want. Why? Because it doesn't have driver memory. You have lots of plastic in a pricey E-class, and an almost Ford-level build quality in the C-class. You have plastic in the SLR... why? Why is that?

Why sell the SL without a manual? Why make supercharged cars without a manual, or at least a paddle-shift?

Why go down market when you're regarded as a classy manufacturer? What was the point in the A-class? Isn't the C-class enough? To give people their first taste of MB? If that's the case, why destroy their trial with a plastic interior and a shit ride?

Why make delivery vans and then pass them off as passenger vans? Why?

etc. etc. etc.

Mercedes has LONG forgotten where they came from. The racing lineage which they once proudly stood for. They have turned into Ford, just with more brand presence... something which they proudly abuse to no end.

They have lost ALL passion. They have simply become a profit-turning machine.

Blah.

Next time you want to ride in luxury, go take a peek into the Audi or BMW showroom instead. But if you want the best BRAND NAME in the auto industry, then by all means, buy a Merc.

Unless they regain sight of WHO they were in the past, the shoddiness of their products will continue.

The end.

PICS or STFU.

ahmedgiyab 06-25-2004 03:05 PM

I don't know about the old CL....but mine has a driver memory....(if you mean the personal adjustment of the steering wheel, e. seat, mirrors).... :?

Maybe the specifications here aren't the same as there.....

The supercharged MBs have paddle shift gears....(buttons at the back of the wheel).... :)

One thing is true....newer MB models are not as reliable as in the 80s-90s......but still they are more reliable than BMWs in any category....

T-Bird 06-25-2004 03:10 PM

he posted the same exact comment in 2 different topics WTF is that and yes I would like some pics of the old school SL.

And it seems that more than half your comments about mercedes have been trumped ain't that some shit?
