I don't agree... Agostini and also Nieto, and more drivers I don't remember by now, won more than 10 World championships, competing in two categlries at the same time (350cc and 500cc Agostini and 80cc and 125cc Angel Nieto). Agostini was unbeated for a couple of years... in two categories!!! Rossi is the best rider of this age, of "his" age may be... but he's still far from other drivers. It's like Schumacher in the 2001 season: very good driver, but Fangio still had more titles than him... Wait and see, jeje.

You can't compare as it was in another age, in the 60's/70's F1 drivers were driving in other formulas too, Jim Clark died in an F2 race for example and he also raced in Indianapolis ... It was possible then but now not anymore as they are very specialized.
The number of titles is not the only reference too, Senna won "only" 3 titles but wasn't he as good as Schumacher or Prost who won 5 and 4 titles each ??
I think that Rossi is undoubtly one of the greatest of all times, but it's hard to compare. Doohan was a wonderful driver too
